EHS Technical Manager

Location: De Soto, Kansas
Full-Time | CMI
Relocation may be considered for qualified candidates.

Brief Overview

CMI is seeking an experienced EHS Technical Manager to support a large-scale electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing facility in De Soto, Kansas. This position will provide technical safety leadership for new equipment installations and existing equipment retrofits supporting battery production operations.

The EHS Technical Manager will lead a team of safety professionals and work closely with engineering and operations throughout the design, installation, modification, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment. A major focus of the position will be machinery safety, machine guarding, and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide EHS oversight for new manufacturing equipment installations and existing equipment retrofits.

  • Lead and oversee machinery safety and machine guarding risk assessments.

  • Partner closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, and EHS teams during equipment design, installation, modification, and commissioning.

  • Identify equipment-related hazards and ensure appropriate engineering controls and corrective actions are implemented.

  • Provide technical guidance on machinery safety requirements, risk assessment protocols, and applicable safety standards.

  • Manage and provide leadership to three direct reports.

  • Review equipment designs and modifications from an EHS and machine safety perspective.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment and manufacturing safety.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, company standards, and recognized industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) required.

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) in addition to the CSP is highly preferred but not required.

  • Previous safety management experience within a manufacturing environment is required.

  • Previous leadership and people-management experience required.

  • Strong technical knowledge of machinery safety, machine guarding, and risk assessment methodologies.

  • Experience supporting the installation, modification, or retrofit of manufacturing equipment.

  • Strong knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations and manufacturing safety standards.

  • Ability to effectively partner with engineering and operations teams in a technical manufacturing environment.

  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • This position requires manufacturing safety experience; construction-only safety experience will not meet the requirements of the role.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly walk and stand throughout a large manufacturing facility.

  • Ability to access manufacturing, production, and equipment installation areas.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and navigate around industrial equipment as needed.

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment or materials up to 30 pounds.

  • Ability to wear required PPE and work safely around manufacturing equipment, machinery, and varying noise levels.
