The Department of Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist houses the largest medical department as well as its own medical residency program. PAs will work alongside Cornell faculty caring for geriatrics, digestive diseases, rehabilitation, vascular, neurology and oncology patients, many from around the world. Admissions in the Department of Internal Medicine alone exceed 20,000 patients per year, generating a wide spectrum of patients and pathology. This is an exciting opportunity to experience a wide variety of cases, ranging from adult inpatients requiring pre and post-operative care to general acute care and specialty services. Our case mix index is one of the highest, yet our measured outcomes are among the best in the nation.
As an Internal Medicine Physician Assistant in the Float Pool at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, you will provide flexible clinical coverage across inpatient medicine services based on patient care priorities, staffing needs, and operational demands. Assignments may include general medicine, PM&R, Med-Psych, 7 South Medicine, specialty medicine services, and other medicine-based units within the PA’s scope of practice and demonstrated competencies. Responsibilities may include admissions, histories and physical examinations, daily assessment and management, progress notes, orders, medication reconciliation, discharge planning and documentation, care coordination, interdisciplinary communication, and response to acute changes in patient condition. Float Pool PAs are expected to transition effectively among assignments, adapt to varying workflows and patient populations, and maintain consistent standards of safe, efficient, patient-centered care. The PA will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Orientation, unit-specific education, and competency validation will be provided as appropriate before independent assignment.
This is a full-time day position; assignments may vary by shift and service according to operational needs and include coverage of up to two weekends per month and holidays.
Preferred Criteria
-Experience in hospital medicine, inpatient rehabilitation, Med-Psych, or other inpatient medicine services is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate sound clinical judgment, flexibility, reliability, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to integrate quickly into different multidisciplinary teams and clinical environments. Comfort managing varied patient populations, prioritizing changing workloads, and learning service-specific workflows is highly valued. New graduates with a strong interest in inpatient medicine, structured orientation, and demonstrated adaptability will be considered.
Required Criteria
-Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program
-NYS PA Licensure
-Current NCCPA Certification
-Current BLS and ACLS certifications
-NYS Infection Control certification
-DEA and NYS Opioid Prescriber Training Certification
