Trading Settlements Manager
Supply, Trading & Shipping executes physical and financial trades with external and internal counterparties and customers, both on behalf of bp's businesses and for entrepreneurial purposes using market intelligence data.
The Trading Settlements team ensures trades are accurately recorded and settled, including payments and receivables, in line with contractual terms and agreed timelines. This requires a strong understanding of the commodity trading lifecycle, from trade execution and entry through physical delivery and final settlement.
The Trading Settlements Manager leads the delivery of accurate and timely settlement activities across the assigned portfolio. The role is accountable for operational cash and working capital outcomes, customer service, aged debt management, compliance with the bp Trading Settlements Policy, and effective resolution of complex settlement issues.
The role provides direct or indirect leadership to senior team members and first-level leaders, develops team capability, builds strong relationships with commercial and functional stakeholders, and supports new business, projects, process improvement, automation and change initiatives.
The role supports US based activity, and requires a minimum of 7 days evening shift working per month.
Please note that this role is offered on a fixed-term basis until January 2028!
In this role You will:
- Lead and oversee the end-to-end delivery of third-party physical and financial settlements within the assigned portfolio.
- Be accountable for the accurate and timely completion of settlement activities, including invoicing, payments, receivables, issue resolution and financial close requirements.
- Ensure funds are received and paid accurately and on time, with appropriate escalation and resolution of discrepancies and outstanding balances
- Oversee cash forecasting, working capital delivery and aged debt management, providing accurate information to enable Treasury to manage cash requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with the bp Trading Settlements Policy and applicable business controls, and promote a strong speak-up and control culture.
- Deliver high-quality service to internal and external customers and ensure timely resolution of complex or escalated queries.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with Trading & Shipping commercial teams, Treasury, Credit, Finance and other functional partners.
- Support the onboarding of new business and lead settlement-related process, system, project and change activity.
- Champion, prioritise and deliver continuous improvement, standardisation, automation and reporting improvements.
- Recruit, lead, coach, retain and develop a high-performing team of analysts, senior analysts and first-level leaders, as applicable.
- Set clear objectives, manage priorities and capacity, and ensure delivery against agreed service and performance expectations.
- Represent Trading Settlements with internal and external stakeholders and influence decisions to achieve business and team objectives
- Required to influence others to achieve desired self/team goals and objectives. Influence LT members.
What You will need to be successful:
- Relevant degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Relevant finance degree and minimum of 6 years of experience in finance or accounting; Masters degree preferred
- 5+ years of coaching and/or leading teams
- SAP experience
- Deep understanding of Accounts Payable and Receivable settlement principles
- • Understanding of trading environment and deep expertise in trading settlements processes
- Developing and delivering Continuous Improvements ideas (e.g. process change and/or automation & reporting changes)
- Project management experience is preferred
