Manager, Cranes, Lifting & Rigging – Zones B & C
Job Description

Job Purpose / Objective

Responsible for managing the safe and efficient operation of all cranes, lifting and rigging activities across Zones B & C, primarily supporting Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operations for ship and rig repair. Oversees portal cranes, heavy rigging, transport operations, ship lift interfaces, workshop and hall crane operations and hand bull rigging activities. The role requires leadership of large teams and the ability to adapt to fluctuating operational demands.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and coordinate all cranes, lifting and rigging operations across Zones B & C supporting MRO activities.
  • Plan and allocate manpower and equipment to meet changing operational and production demands.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in line with approved procedures, PTW systems and HSE standards.
  • Control operational hours, timesheets, billing and costs, ensuring accurate reporting and cost-effective utilization of resources.
  • Provide technical guidance, drive performance and continuous improvement, and support safe execution of routine and critical lifting operations.
  • Manage staff, including allocation of duties, competency training, leave rosters and absences.
  • Support Production leadership with resource planning, maximizing utilization and performance of assets.
  • Support commercial activities including tendering, business development and promotion of services.
  • Work closely with Asset Management and Business Development to develop internal lifting and rigging rates.
  • Lead the development and review of departmental operating procedures.
  • Work closely with Superintendents and Engineering teams to identify and eliminate hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, BS EN, ASME, LEEA, LOLER and other applicable standards.
  • Provide technical lifting and rigging guidance.
  • Support recruitment, selection, training, certification and performance management of personnel.
  • Promote continual process improvement and operational excellence.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (preferred).

Professional Qualifications

  • Appointed Person (Lifting) certification or experience desirable.
  • Relevant NVQs in lifting, rigging or shipbuilding.
  • IOSH certification desirable.
  • OSHA certification desirable.

Competencies

  • Thorough understanding of planning and executing lifting services to international standards.
  • Knowledge of ERP and Asset Management systems.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and implement training programs.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Resilient under stress and capable of managing competing priorities.
  • Computer proficient and physically fit for the role.

Experience

  • 15–18 years of experience in heavy lifting and rigging environments such as shipyards, rig yards, or oil & gas facilities.

Languages

  • English required.
  • Arabic advantageous.
