- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the commissary kitchen, café, and common areas.
- Clean and maintain grease traps according to established schedules.
- Clean air vents, exhaust hoods, and ventilation systems to ensure a safe and sanitary work environment.
- Perform deep cleaning projects throughout the commissary kitchen and café.
- Clean and sanitize employee and public restrooms.
- Clean and maintain employee locker rooms and lockers.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and appliances, including ovens, stoves, grills, fryers, shelving, and food preparation equipment.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and maintain floors using appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions.
- Empty trash, recycling, and food waste containers and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of loading docks, storage areas, hallways, and exterior entrances as assigned.
- Assist with moving equipment, supplies, and furniture for cleaning or operational needs.
- Restock cleaning supplies and notify the Facilities Manager when inventory is low.
- Identify and report maintenance issues, damaged equipment, or safety hazards promptly.
- Follow all company safety procedures and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain sanitation standards in compliance with Butterfield Market policies and New York City Department of Health food safety regulations.
- Support additional facilities, sanitation, and maintenance projects as assigned.
Requirements
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous porter, janitorial, custodial, sanitation, or commercial kitchen cleaning experience preferred.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, sanitation practices, and safe chemical handling preferred.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs require.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and tools.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, and noisy environments typical of a commercial kitchen.
- Ability to climb ladders or step stools when necessary.
- Manual dexterity to safely use cleaning equipment, chemicals, and supplies.
