The HVAC II is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance, repair, and operation of all HVAC mechanical systems and structures throughout State Farm Arena. Working closely with the HVAC Lead and Chief Engineer, this role supports preventive maintenance programs, safety compliance, and equipment reliability to ensure optimal performance across all building systems. Success in this role means a facility that runs flawlessly from game days to world-class events.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities 55%
Perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC components and systems, including steam, hot water, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment throughout the facility.
Regularly inspect assigned equipment to ensure proper operation, identifying and addressing issues before they impact facility performance or guest experience.
Ensure all equipment is properly tagged and secured prior to maintenance or repair work, adhering to State Farm Arena safety regulations and OSHA guidelines at all times.
Follow work priorities based on component/system status and formal work order documentation, completing all assigned tasks on schedule with minimal supervision.
Monitor and execute O&M procedures to ensure correct practices are followed, providing hands-on assistance as needed.
Secondary Responsibilities 25%
Work in conjunction with the HVAC Lead to plan and implement an effective preventive maintenance (PM) program for all HVAC components, systems, and structures.
Assist management with safety training, safety improvement planning, record keeping, and enforcement of OSHA guidelines and State Farm Arena safety policies.
Conduct safety audits to identify deficiencies and unsafe practices requiring immediate correction, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff and guests.
Assist in preparing purchase orders for materials, tools, equipment, and spare parts needed to support ongoing operations and repairs.
Tertiary Responsibilities 15%
Maintain accurate records, schedules, and charts as required by the HVAC Chief Engineer and HVAC Lead to ensure proper and timely PM or repair of all systems and structures.
Help develop techniques for work method simplification, cost reduction, and improved working conditions, staying current on industry best practices and new equipment O&M requirements.
Provide input to assist in developing operational plans and programs up to one (1) year in advance, including personnel requirement recommendations for the HVAC department.
Stay informed of new and existing equipment O&M requirements and contribute ideas that improve system performance and reliability.
Additional Responsibilities 5%
Provide cross-functional support to the broader Engineering team during high-demand event days, including concerts, sporting events, and special productions.
Respond to on-call requests outside of scheduled hours to address urgent mechanical system needs as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the HVAC Lead or Chief Engineer.

Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or vocational training preferred.
Minimum certification of Third Class Engineer under the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE).
Minimum 4 years of practical plant operation experience.
Detailed working knowledge of mechanical and electrical components, systems, tools, test instruments, and proper procedures related to installation and repair of HVAC and building systems.
Must be able to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays; must be available for on-call assignments.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and be comfortable working at elevated heights.
Must be able to travel to various locations throughout the facility and grounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
EPA 608 Universal Certification or equivalent refrigerant handling certification.
Experience with building automation systems (BAS) or energy management systems.
Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for work order tracking and documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to accurately complete work orders and maintenance records.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as a self-starter while contributing effectively as a team player.
