We are looking for a Clinical Leader for our hospital to help us build a healthier nation. You’re registered with the appropriate governing body and you have the relevant qualifications and post registration in surgery/anaesthetics experience, including as a Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner. With strong clinical leadership, you will guide your team a shared vision promoting innovation and sustainability. As a clinical leader, you will have good communication and organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team, knowledge and understanding of running a smooth & effective department equipment is also essential.
A Scrub Team Leader is responsible for providing clinical and operational leadership to the scrub team within the operating theatre, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care and the efficient coordination of surgical services.
As our Clinical Leader, you will:
Lead and coordinate the scrub team during surgical procedures.
Maintain high standards of aseptic technique, infection prevention, and patient safety.
Prepare and manage surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables.
Support surgeons and the multidisciplinary team throughout operations.
Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and professional support to scrub practitioners, students, and support staff.
Undertake line management responsibilities, including staff appraisal, performance management, attendance management, recruitment, induction, training, and workforce development.Ensure compliance with theatre policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
Contribute to staff rostering, capacity planning, and efficient theatre utilisation.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and incident investigations.
Monitor stock levels and support procurement and resource management.
Act as a clinical role model and provide leadership during emergency and complex procedures.
Key Skills and Experience
As Our Clinical Leader you will have;
Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with current professional registration.
Significant scrub experience across a range of surgical specialties.
Proven leadership and line management experience.
Strong communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of infection prevention, patient safety, and clinical governance.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced theatre environment.
Commitment to staff development, education, and continuous improvement.
Desirable Criteria;
Surgical First Assistant (SFA) qualification or a willingness to work towards obtaining one.
Experience in leading service improvement and quality initiatives.
