Drive innovation in healthcare, transform patient outcomes, and advance your career today.

Medical Imaging sits at the centre of the patient journey. It is where diagnoses are confirmed, treatment plans are shaped, and where patients often arrive anxious and leave reassured. Our Medical Imaging department at Macquarie University Hospital, located on the Wallumattagal Campus in North Ryde, brings together advanced imaging technology, interventional procedures and an experienced multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to step into a Lead Nurse role within this department. This is a hands-on clinical leadership position: you will care for patients undergoing complex imaging and interventional procedures while guiding, rostering and developing a small team of Registered Nurses. You will work shoulder to shoulder with radiographers, radiologists, nuclear medicine technologists and administrative colleagues to keep our service safe, efficient and genuinely patient-centred.

Prior Medical Imaging experience is ideal, but we recognise that strong nurses come from many settings. If you bring solid procedural and assessment skills, sound clinical judgement and a genuine interest in imaging, training and support will be provided to build your specialty knowledge.

About the Role

As Lead Registered Nurse, you will provide expert nursing care across a broad range of diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures, while setting the standard for practice within the nursing team. You will be a visible clinical leader, supporting less experienced staff, strengthening relationships with key stakeholders across the hospital, and ensuring care is delivered in line with professional standards and Macquarie University Health's commitment to safe, coordinated, evidence-based practice.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Performing nursing assessments, cannulation and procedural preparation (including CT Coronary Angiogram bookings and preparation) in line with departmental and organisational standards

  • Assisting radiographers and radiologists with procedure set-up, equipment operation and medication administration during CT, MRI and nuclear medicine procedures — including biopsies, contrast administration, intravenous medications, infusions and Port-a-Cath access

  • Leading, mentoring and supporting a small team of Registered Nurses, including day-to-day coordination and development of clinical capability

  • Informing and reassuring patients about imaging procedures, responding to questions and concerns, and referring to appropriate sources of further information where required

About Us

At Macquarie University Health, we know working together leads to better health outcomes. This happens when clinicians, researchers, students, and staff unite to improve lives through compassionate, coordinated, effective care that is centred around the patient. We are celebrating our 15-year anniversary.

Macquarie University Hospital is Australia's first and only private not-for-profit teaching hospital on a university campus, sitting alongside the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences and a broad range of specialised clinical services. As Australia's first fully integrated academic health precinct on a university campus, we translate research into faster diagnoses, better treatments, and integrated, evidence-based recovery pathways.

Our nursing workforce is supported by the Academy of Nurse Education and Research, established to develop nursing excellence across the organisation. Through the Academy, our nurses lead clinical improvement projects and translational nursing research, develop clinical expertise across a range of clinical and perioperative specialties, and engage with a structured career plan through defined clinical, education or managerial pathways.

More information about our employee benefits can be found here.

About You

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with a minimum of five years' post-graduate experience or Clinical Nurse Specialist level experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and support a small nursing team, with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with peers, clinicians and patients, underpinned by a customer service focus

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise, multitask and exercise critical thinking and initiative in a fast-paced clinical environment, working both independently and as part of a team

  • Proficiency in cannulation and Port-a-Cath access, with a high level of computer literacy (experience with Radiology Information Systems such as Comrad desirable)

  • Clinical experience in radiology, nuclear medicine or the provision of Medical Imaging services (desirable — training will be provided)
