Description
Field Compensation Specialist
MMLIS Compensation
Full-time, Springfield, MA
The Opportunity
As an Expert Field Compensation Specialist, your primary responsibility is to ensure financial advisors are paid accurately and on time while serving as a knowledgeable resource for complex compensation processing, research, and issue resolution.
This role requires strong review and analytical skills to evaluate compensation data, reconcile discrepancies, identify root causes, and independently resolve more complex compensation-related inquiries. It also requires strong critical thinking, advanced Excel skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work through issues that may not follow a standard process.
You will collaborate closely with advisors, vendors, internal business partners and leadership to research questions, validate information, and support accurate compensation outcomes. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with data, solving complex problems, and helping improve consistency and accuracy within day-to-day compensation operations.
The Team
The MMLIS Compensation team manages the day-to-day processing of commissions and responds to compensation-related inquiries from the field and internal business partners. The team’s mission is to ensure the timely and accurate payout of compensation to advisors.
Because broker-dealer initiatives and business changes frequently impact compensation, the team is often involved in operational updates and process changes. Success in this environment requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, collaboration, and the ability to understand how compensation data, systems, and business decisions connect across departments and partners.
The Impact
In this role, you will:
- Review, analyze, and reconcile compensation data to ensure payments are calculated and processed accurately.
- Use advanced Excel skills to research discrepancies, validate data, identify trends, and support accurate compensation outcomes.
- Independently research and resolve complex compensation-related inquiries by gathering information, analyzing details, and determining the appropriate resolution.
- Identify root causes of recurring compensation issues and share observations that may help improve accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for teammates and business partners on complex compensation processing questions.
- Collaborate closely with advisors, vendors, and internal partners to resolve compensation issues and provide clear, timely communication.
- Support process improvements by identifying gaps, documenting findings, and recommending practical updates related to compensation workflows.
- Assist with knowledge sharing and guidance for teammates when questions arise on complex or non-routine compensation items.
- Participate in team discussions by sharing data-driven insights, trends, and observations that support better decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications
- 1+ years of advanced Microsoft Excel experience, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and/or experience with data reconciliation, reporting, trend analysis, and working with large datasets.
- 1+ years of professional experience performing analytical, operational, problem-solving, or data-driven work in a business environment.
- Due to the nature of this position, as a part of our background check process, candidates must be able to pass a non-registered fingerprint background check to qualify as a fingerprinted person under FINRA.
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience within a broker-dealer, RIA, financial services, compensation, commissions, payroll, accounting, or other regulated operational environment.
- Experience reviewing, reconciling, and validating compensation, payment, or financial data.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a resource for peers or business partners on complex processing or research items.
- Proven ability to analyze complex situations, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions.
- Ability to identify trends, process gaps, and opportunities for improved accuracy or consistency through data analysis and critical thinking.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Action-oriented mindset with the ability to take ownership of issues and drive resolution through completion.
