American Skin Cancer Institute (ASCI) is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Pathology Assistant to support our pathology and laboratory team. This is a full-time, non-supervisory position reporting to the Practice Manager.
What You’ll Do
- Assist pathology staff with daily laboratory and clerical activities.
- Enter orders and data accurately using computer systems, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Receive, identify, document, and track pathology specimens.
- Assist with specimen processing when properly trained and directed.
- File pathology reports, blocks, slides, and laboratory records.
- Print and distribute reports to physicians and Medical Records.
- Assist with outside laboratory referrals and specimen retrieval.
- Maintain laboratory supplies, inventory, and work areas.
- Respond appropriately to STAT requests.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow laboratory safety procedures.
- Participate in required training, orientations, and staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer and data-entry skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Basic clerical skills, including filing, faxing, copying, and multi-line phones.
- Familiarity with pathology blocks, slides, and pathology reports preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Professional communication and teamwork skills.
- Two current, acceptable, and verifiable professional references required.
Requirements
- Full-time availability.
- Successful completion of required background check, drug screening, and reference checks.
- Completion of required basic, intermediate, and advanced laboratory orientations before independently performing laboratory duties.
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. repeatedly and 50 lbs. intermittently.
- Ability to work safely around biological specimens, blood/body fluids, infectious materials, and laboratory chemicals.
