Job Description:

Industrial lab technician takes the responsibility to handle blending, testing or analysis of lubricant samples in formulation development, formulation changes or technical support/troubleshooting cases, in CCTC lab or third-party labs, following safe and professional ways.

This role will be the key players to ensure a smooth operation in formulation or technical support cases.， especially for Metalworking Fluid (MWF). The formulation relevant tasks rely heavily on proper blending of components in candidate formulations which will be further assessed to fit for market demand. The diagnose of root causes in technical support cases can only be effective when accurate and comprehensive analysis are realized.

Industrial lab technician will oversee the operation of blending or testing in Industrial Labs in CCTC, especially samples handling, testing, data processing and reporting.

This role will work mainly on MWFs relevant areas.

 

 

Key Results/ Accountabilities expected from role

Safety and Compliance

• Deliver safe and reliable operations through commitment to Castrol HSSE standards, values and behaviors.
• Ensure smooth daily operation of testing tasks by following internal procedures and regulations in CCTC.
• Be aware of the risks in lab work and chemicals and follow necessary safe instructions.

Blending

• Manage and prioritize blending samples and conduct testing in a timely manner as requested.
• Support thickener synthesis for new product development or existing product modifications.
• Work closely with the team to ensure timely updates regarding the request turnaround time and result documentation and feedback.

Testing and Analysis:

• Manage incoming samples and test reagents in a safe and compliant way.
• Undertake analysis of metalworking fluids or additives in CCTC labs by using a wide range of analytical techniques according to international standards and local procedures to generate fast turnaround, high quality and accurate results. The testing will be guided and supported by Technologist.
• Manage the process of outsourcing testing in third-party labs including sampling and data collection.
• Take ownership of the test workload - prioritize and batch tests as necessary, requiring an awareness of customer and business requirements. Flexibility of response to changing priorities is key.

Data Processing and Reporting:

• Collect and analyses data as required in forms of summary, listing, presenting or report.
• Verify the accuracy and repeatability of data and make judgement on the reliability of the data.
• Communicate results and conclusions in efficient and transparent way within team.

Equipment Management

• Responsible for the daily running of lab equipment and apparatus in Industrial Application Lab, including setup, calibration, quality checks and basic problem solving.
• Maintain equipment operation log based on quality management required.

Key long term challenges faced in the role

In a challenging, fast-move and intense competition market, the core competence in technical expertise of chemical analysis and lubricant knowledge must be developed to offer integrated and innovative solutions to market and customer besides works on the intuition-style and experience-based routine tasks.

Experience & Expertise (mandatory & desired)

 

• Degree in Chemistry (or relevant scientific discipline) and at least 2 years equivalent formal laboratory experience from industrial in necessary.
• Strong HSSE mindset and previous experience of working in a laboratory environment.
• Suitable candidates will be self-starters with the ability to work in an agile and independent manner whilst also being a strong team player.
• Proven track record of attention to detail and generation of accurate test data。
• Experience of analytical techniques and requirements for the product area (lubricants, additives, grease etc) is great advantage.
• Good communication skill in required. Effective English reading and writing is a plus.
