Essential Criteria
Skills, Competencies and Experience
- The Sampler will have a working knowledge of the equipment used for the taking of samples as well as the subsequent preparation of samples.
- The Sampler will receive training on the various aspects of sampling.
- The Sampler will receive an ALS Induction booklet containing information on ALS policy and procedures with regards to Quality as well as Health and Safety requirements.
- Induction may be carried out specific to Port / Terminal requirements
- The Sampler needs to be reliable and be able to work for extended periods with minimal supervision.
- He must be receptive to on-going training as the job requirements vary.
- Be prepared to work on weekends and work overtime as and when required
- Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, integrity and honesty
Position Duties
Principal Responsibilities and Challenges
- To conduct sampling and inspection activities and also prepare samples as per the relevant procedures or as directed by the immediate supervisor. These activities may include but are not limited to sampling, packing, labelling, sealing, sizing and weighing of various commodities.
- To record all necessary information with regard to sampling and inspection activities as per the relevant procedures or as directed by the immediate supervisor. This may include the completion of forms and / or obtaining photographic evidence of activities.
- To adhere to ALS policies and procedures as well as the requirements of the terminals / ports with regard to the use of personal protective equipment and health and safety requirements, medicals and permits.
- To adhere to all quality procedures as directed by the Site Manager/ Management System requirements which include but are not limited to:
- Completing of raw data record forms in full
- Conducting the sampling and inspection as per set procedures or instructions
- Reporting any anomalies immediately to the Supervisor/Manager
- Ensuring that the raw data forms are traceable to the internal job reference numbers
- Carrying out maintenance checks on equipment’s and recording this in logbooks or record forms
- Reporting any errors noted on the equipment to the Quality Manager/Supervisor

- Abide by the ALS company policies and procedures
- Follow all ALS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at all times

- Ensure that the quality of work produced meets the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standard and are maintained at a level that meets or exceeds company and market acceptable standards.
- Always follow all ALS Quality System Procedures.
- Always abide by local legislative requirements.
