Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Inspects all loads arriving for disposal.
- Computes charges on weight or volume basis. Measures vehicles to determine correct cubic yard volume.
- Keeps and maintains records of activities. Records total of vehicles, volumes, categories of refuse, and cash and charge transactions, or other data as assigned.
- Maintains area in and around scalehouse, including the used battery/waste oil area and the 20 cubic yards garbage box area, and/or the compactor box area.
- Operates computerized weigh station requiring basic understanding of micro-computer hardware.
- Provides information to the public by phone and in person regarding landfill rules and regulations, helps customers, and answers questions.
- Picks up litter around landfill as needed.
- Works on the working face of the landfill as needed.
- May be required to maintain recycle and waste oil sites throughout the County.
- Serves as Landfill Attendant at outlying sites.
- Operates tractor with mower attachment and riding lawn mowers or other small equipment as assigned.
- May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Ability to make correct change.
2. Ability to measure the capacity of a truck.
3. Ability to accurately input computer data.
4. Ability to keep and maintain clerical records.
5. Ability to manually operate truck scale and compute charges.
6. Ability to work with the public.
7. Ability to perform manual labor such as mowing, weed eating, sweeping, and cleaning.
8. Ability to operate light equipment.
9. Ability to maintain and clean equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- One (1) year of experience handling money or bookkeeping experience and one (1) year of experience working with the public.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
1. Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTMust be able to provide own transportation to and from County work sites.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
1. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
2. Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
3. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
4. Occasionally heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying.
5. Walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and sitting.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
1. Works inside and outside in various conditions such as rain, cold, noise, dust, smells, heavy traffic, etc.
2. Works independently without continual supervision.
