UW MEDICAL CENTER - NORTHWEST SOCIAL WORK has an outstanding opportunity for for a SENIOR SOCIAL WORKER within the Outpatient Oncology Unit.
WORK SCHEDULE
20 hours per week
Day shift
This position is expected to last from October 2026 to June 2027
This is a multi-site hybrid position that works one full day a week in the NW Breast Surgery Center, one full day a week in the NW Gyn Onc Clinic and half a day a week hybrid from home.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

The ideal candidate will have 2 years of experience in a hospital setting providing direct service to oncology patients.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will support clinic teams and oncology patients/caregivers by providing direct services in response to referrals by the medical team and/or scheduled social support visits with newly diagnosed patients.
Initiate appropriate interventions that may include assessment, financial need, housing, legal issues, drug/alcohol issues, mental health needs, coping and adjustment to illness, advance care and end of life planning, coordination with community resources, coordination with Medicaid brokers and support systems, and address other psychosocial and tangible needs that could affect participation in care.
Create and maintain a resource and referral library for each major diagnosis seen in the covered clinics.
Provide patient-centered care by treating patients and their support systems with respect and dignity.
Maintain an environment that respects cultural, economic, ethnic, and lifestyle differences of patients, visitors, and staff.
Participate as an Interdisciplinary team member with the clinics serving the patient. Collaborate regarding appropriate referrals to meet patient needs. Provide education to health care providers and staff about the role of Social Work with patients.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A Master of Social Work Degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and one year of full-time social work experience in a health care setting or equivalent. Experience can include a practicum placement as part of a social work training program and/or employment experience.
LEGAL REQUIREMENT:
Within 90 days of hire must hold one of the following credentials issued by the state of Washington:
• Agency Affiliated Counselor
• Licensed Social Work Associate -Advanced
• Licensed Social Work Associate - Independent Clinical
• Licensed Advance Social Worker
• Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
