Lactation Consultant RN

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Lactation Consultant Registered Nurse (RN), you will use considerable professional knowledge and judgment in creating plans of care, evaluating patients, and providing consultation on best practices for medications and lactation.

 

Every day, you will be responsible for delivering the highest quality patient care according to the specific orders of each patient’s individual physician. To be successful in this role, you will utilize your knowledge and skills to educate patients and their families on prevention and healthy habits.

• Provides direct patient care for lactation consultation, including assessment, plan of care, and intervention.
• Provides education and community outreach.
• Completes all required documentation in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner in accordance with FHS standards and procedures.
• Assists with regional program planning and the development and implementation of guidelines and standards of care for breastfeeding mothers.
• Cultural Sensitivity and Competence:  Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services. 
• Patient Population Served:  Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.
• Performs related duties as required.

Job Requirements

Required

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• Four (4) years recent related work experience involving childbearing families or maternal health nursing that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities
• Current certification by International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (I.B.L.C.E.); OR have submitted an application to sit for the exam at the next scheduled examination offering date, with certification obtained within 3 months of taking the examination.
• Registered Nurse: WA, upon hire
• Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
