Description

ROLE SUMMARY

The Vice President, Learning & Development is a strategic architect and enterprise steward of how Pfizer colleagues grow, lead, and adapt in a fast-changing industry. Reporting to the Chief Talent Officer, this leader owns the end-to-end L&D strategy for a global, complex, and highly diverse workforce spanning corporate, commercial, manufacturing, R&D, and field-based colleagues across geographies and employee types. The role carries a distinct and elevated focus on leadership development, building the judgment, capability, and readiness of leaders at every level, while closing critical skill gaps across the enterprise through modern, scalable, and measurable learning experiences. AI fluency reports into this role, positioning the VP to ensure that building comfort and capability with AI is fully integrated into how Pfizer colleagues learn, work, and lead going forward. Leading a team of 35 and a $14M budget, this leader will bring proven experience building and running L&D functions inside large, matrixed, global organizations, translating business strategy into a capability agenda that is credible with executives, relevant to colleagues, and rigorous in its impact.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and own Pfizer's enterprise Learning & Development strategy, aligning capability-building investments to business priorities, workforce trends, and the broader talent agenda.
  • Lead the strategy, curriculum, and delivery model for leadership development across all levels from first-time people leaders to senior leaders.
  • Identify enterprise and functional skill gaps through data and partnership with business and People Experience leaders, and translate them into prioritized, scalable capability-building programs.
  • Own AI Fluency as a direct reporting area, ensuring AI literacy and applied AI capability are embedded into learning pathways for colleagues, managers, and leaders across the organization.
  • Build and evolve a learning strategy that serves Pfizer's full range of employee types and work environments — corporate, field-based, manufacturing, R&D, and commercial, with appropriately tailored content, formats, and delivery channels.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a team of L&D professionals, building a high-performing, AI-fluent, and business-savvy function that colleagues and leaders trust.
  • Own and manage annual budget, ensuring disciplined prioritization, vendor and platform management, and demonstrable return on learning investment.
  • Partner closely with the Chief Talent Officer, business unit leaders, and the executive team to ensure learning strategy is directly connected to enterprise priorities and workforce planning.
  • Establish measurement frameworks and analytics that connect learning investment to business outcomes, colleague capability growth, and engagement, and report progress to senior leadership.
  • Evaluate and manage external partners, content providers, and technology platforms to ensure Pfizer's learning ecosystem remains modern, scalable, and cost-effective.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and growth, positioning L&D as a strategic enabler of Pfizer's talent strategy and broader business transformation.
  • Stay ahead of external trends in leadership development, adult learning, and AI-enabled learning technology, bringing external best practice into Pfizer's approach.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years of progressive Learning & Development or Talent Management experience, including significant experience leading L&D within a large, global, complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling leadership development strategy and programs for multiple leadership levels, including senior executives.
  • Proven track record designing and delivering capability-building programs that close measurable skill gaps and connect directly to business strategy and outcomes.
  • Experience building learning strategies and content for diverse employee populations — including corporate, field-based, and frontline or operational colleagues — across multiple geographies.
  • Direct experience with, or strong point of view on, AI fluency and the integration of AI-enabled tools and capability building into enterprise learning strategy.
  • Experience leading and developing large teams and managing significant budgets with strong operational and vendor management discipline.
  • Strong executive presence and stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering directly with C-suite and senior business leaders.
  • Data-driven approach to learning strategy, with experience building measurement frameworks that link learning investment to business impact.
  • Experience operating within large, complex organizations with diverse employee groups
  • Experience working in other Human Resources functions outside of L&D such as HR Generalist, or Talent is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Exceptional communication and change management skills, with the ability to translate strategy into inclusive, values-driven, and aspirational colleague-facing programs.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
