At the conclusion of this position, co-ops will have increased their knowledge of investing, the mutual fund industry, employee engagement, and a firm understanding of how information technology works at an asset manager.

MFS co-op positions are a 6-month commitment, working Monday – Friday (beginning on Wednesday, January 13th through Friday June 25th, 2027), and work between 35-40 hours.  Our program is designed for undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in a co-op program through their college or university and can meet our requirements.

Job Summary

The Digital Developer Co-op position involves working directly with a small, dynamic team of web developers, business analysts and QA engineers as they assist internal business partners in developing systems strategies to achieve MFS' business goals.  The position involves acting as an integral part of the team to create, enhance, and implement new and existing solutions by collaborating with software developers, subject matter experts and other IT team members. 

Job Details

• Strong technical background and the ability to navigate through multi-tiered application code and databases to make changes and enhancements to existing applications
• Exposure to Agile software development methodologies and best practices. Opportunity to be a member of a functioning scrum team
• Be able to independently write code or work with a more senior developer on a complex project
• Involvement with multiple projects at multiple stages; gain understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
• Exposure to a diverse array of applications including: MFS.com, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Microsoft Office Products, Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence, and different applications used to track time and Agile scrum team output
• Heavy interaction with other developers, designers, and a range of technical experts. Involvement with the Code Push Cycle and different environments (Development, Stage, Production)
• Exposure to the financial industry with an industry leader; gaining in-depth experience with web technology and other parts of the IT infrastructure

Principal Responsibilities

• Carries out programming functions: Writes, debugs, and tests code following best practices
• Assist other developers or business analysts by performing analysis and/or writing code
• Collaborate with other developers, testers, and system engineers to ensure quality product enhancements
• Engage in testing of applications, following all appropriate procedures and best practices.
• Maintain documentation and write new procedures when needed

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in a computer related field. MIS concentrations welcome
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Skills in one or more of the following preferred: Java, Python, C/C++, SQL
• Knowledge of databases, both SQL and No SQL Databases, and data structures
• Some knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS a plus
• Expertise in writing clean, maintainable code following best practices (unit testing, source control, continuous integration, automation, design patterns, etc.)
• Ability to take initiative, to utilize resources, and to communicate effectively
• Strong written skills and an ability to simultaneously manage working on multiple projects of varying size and complexity
• Proven analytical skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative and help with developing creative solutions to meet business needs
• Experience working in a team, preferably on projects as well as in a support role

Hourly Pay Rate: $21.00-$25.00
