Information Technology Department
Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)
Approximately 20 Hours per Week
Location: West Location - 8505 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32966
 
 
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic IT Project Support Intern to participate in a structured, project-based learning experience within our Information Technology Department.
This internship is designed primarily to provide educational training, practical skill development, professional mentorship, and exposure to healthcare information technology operations. Interns will work alongside experienced IT professionals while contributing to designated technology projects that support organizational goals and provide meaningful learning opportunities.
The internship is intended to benefit participants through hands-on experience, guided learning, and professional development in Information Technology, Systems Administration, Networking, Cybersecurity, and IT Service Management.
Preference may be given to candidates who have recently completed a degree, certification program, technical training program, or relevant coursework and are seeking practical experience that supports their career goals.
 
Project-Based Learning Experience
Interns will participate in structured technology projects designed to enhance technical knowledge, professional skills, and career readiness. Projects may involve technology deployment, device lifecycle management, documentation initiatives, inventory management, process improvement efforts, system migration activities, and other educational assignments.
All project activities will be completed under the guidance and supervision of experienced IT professionals. The internship is intended to complement the work of the IT department while providing significant educational value to the intern.
 
Internship Commitment
To ensure interns receive the full educational benefit of the program, participants are expected to maintain a consistent schedule of approximately 20 hours per week throughout the internship.
Regular attendance, professionalism, active participation, and commitment to learning objectives are essential. Interns who are unable to maintain the agreed-upon schedule or program expectations may be removed from the internship.
 
 
What You'll Learn
 
Technology Support Fundamentals
  • Learn troubleshooting methodologies used to diagnose hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Gain hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows and macOS operating systems
  • Assist with device setup, configuration, software installation, and technology deployment projects
  • Develop practical skills using system utilities and troubleshooting tools
  • Learn the fundamentals of enterprise technology support

 

Systems Administration Exposure
  • Observe and assist with user account management processes
  • Learn basic system configuration and administration concepts

Networking Fundamentals
  • Learn the fundamentals of network connectivity, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, DNS, and IP addressing

  • Develop an understanding of network troubleshooting principles and best practices
  • Observe how IT professionals monitor and maintain network performance

 

IT Service Management (ITSM)
  • Learn how support requests are tracked and managed through an IT ticketing system
  • Assist with documenting support activities and technical solutions
  • Learn service management principles, escalation processes, and support workflows
  • Gain insight into how IT teams manage incidents and service requests

 

Cybersecurity & Access Management
  • Learn cybersecurity fundamentals, including phishing awareness, password security, and data protection practices
  • Gain exposure to user account administration and access management processes
  • Learn about Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Single Sign-On (SSO), and information security principles
  • Develop an understanding of cybersecurity's role within healthcare organizations

 

Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Assist with creating and updating technical documentation and knowledge base resources
  • Learn documentation standards and best practices
  • Help organize information that supports operational efficiency and knowledge sharing

 

Professional Development
  • Work alongside experienced IT professionals in a professional healthcare environment
  • Participate in team meetings, project discussions, and knowledge-sharing activities

Qualifications
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recently completed or currently pursuing a degree, certification, or coursework in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of computer systems and technology concepts
  • Interest in networking, systems administration, cybersecurity, or technical support
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn

 

Preferred Candidate
  • Recent graduate of a degree, technical training, certification, military technical training, or workforce development program
  • Seeking practical experience to strengthen technical and professional skills
  • Available to consistently participate approximately 20 hours per week
  • Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, and commitment to learning

 

Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications
  • Experience working with computers, mobile devices, or technology projects
  • Coursework related to networking, cybersecurity, or systems administration
