Description
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated, organized graduate student to serve as Student Assistant Specialist for the Strategies platform in the School of Design Strategies at Parsons, creating videos that support the platform and providing administrative and operational support to ensure the Design Strategies Operations Office runs smoothly day to day.
Strategies is a platform of strategic practice for educators, scholars, artists, and designers. It is the counterpart to The Journal of Design Strategies, which, along with the Stephan Weiss Lecture Series, with which the Journal is coordinated, is made possible by an endowment established by the Karan-Weiss Foundation, Donna Karan, Gabrielle Karan, Corey Weiss, and Lisa Weiss.
A successful candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working independently while communicating effectively with staff, faculty, and fellow students. The role requires strong organizational skills, familiarity with digital tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Excel, project management platforms), and a willingness to take initiative in solving small but essential operational challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Flexibility to visit the School of Design Strategies to record videos of course activities.
Format text, images, and other content types in line with established design guidelines.
Collaborate closely with the project team to maintain the website's structure and vision.
Maintain an organized workflow and track progress within the larger project timeline.
Assist with general administrative tasks such as scheduling, file organization, and document preparation.
Monitor and respond to inquiries in the Design Strategies Operations Office shared inbox, escalating issues as needed.
Help coordinate logistics for internal meetings and school-wide events, including room reservations, materials preparation, and day-of assistance.
Update spreadsheets, contact lists, and internal records to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
Maintain and organize shared drives and folders, ensuring clear structure and easy navigation for the team.
Track office supplies and help order and restock as needed.
Support special projects and initiatives within the Operations Office, including research, scheduling, and communications tasks.
Work collaboratively with staff and faculty, providing responsive, courteous support and clear communication on assigned tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program at The New School. Additional qualifications include:
Familiarity with and enthusiasm for social network sites, social media tools, and associated apps and technology
Excellent writing and editing skills
Strong video editing skills with desire to learn and troubleshoot challenges
Impeccable attention to detail and aesthetics
Sound judgment
Positive attitude
Excellent communicator
Highly organized--enjoys organization
Self-motivated
Enjoys assisting others and providing support
Able to focus without being distracted by cell phones, personal social media, and competing responsibilities
Familiarity with Instagram, Zeemee, and CampusESP
Familiarity with Google applications including Sheets, Docs, Forms, and Slides
Extensive experience with Premiere Pro and Canva video, photo, and design capabilities
Extensive experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
WORK MODE
On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on campus during regularly scheduled work hours because the work cannot be performed remotely without being infeasible or not in the best interest of the organization. #LI-DNI
Work hours are not fixed and may vary from week to week based on program needs. Student Assistants will support events taking place throughout the semester and should have some flexibility in their availability to accommodate scheduled program events.
Hourly Rate: $21 per hour
