This position assists in the supervision and execution of all beverage operations from set-up to breakdown throughout Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

Located in downtown Tampa, Straz Center is one of the largest performing arts complexes in the country, offers a team-based work environment that shows our dedication to the community every day. Essential Functions:

Event/Bar Management

  • Assists with ensuring the successful operations of all bar areas.
  • Assists bartenders maintain quick and efficient lines while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Supervises and assists in the execution of the responsibilities as described on the Bartender's Flowchart.
  • Ensures all bars have adequate coverage.
  • Ensures guests receive superior service.
  • Ensures a professional and appropriate uniform appearance of the bartending and barbacking staff in accordance with the uniform code.
  • Assists with evaluating the performance of bartenders and makes recommendations for improvement to the Beverage Manager.
  • Assists Beverage Manager with the on-boarding and training of new bartending staff and continued education throughout the season.
  • Assists Assistant Manager with creating fair and unbiased staff schedules.
  • Assists the Beverage Manager in the monthly liquor inventory.
  • Assists with ensuring all closing duties for both bartender and barbacks are performed correctly and completely at the end of each employee's shift.
  • Performs manager team closing duties such as verifying and completing tip out sales logs, daily sales logs, emailing daily sales to relevant parties, nightly management reports and nightly walkthroughs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Professionalism

  • Uses professional knowledge and skills, both technical and managerial, to ensure highest level of guest satisfaction.
  • Maintains a high standard of cleanliness and order in all portable bars, Maestro's bar, and all liquor storage areas.
  • Addresses customer concerns quickly and decisively with a strong focus on customer service. 
  • Communicates any issues to the Beverage Manager for further consultation, if necessary.
  • Approaches all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly and service-oriented manner.
  • Develops a sense of accuracy and urgency in all staff.
  • Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming which includes wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working and keeping assigned area clean and well maintained at all times.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position assists the Beverage Manager and Assistant Beverage Manager by supervising the bartenders and barback staff on duty that day.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Must be willing and available to work on-site as scheduled.
  • Must be able available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have proficient bartending and cocktail mixing skills and knowledge.
  • Proficient computer experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Point of Sale (POS) operating systems, or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to effectively lead, motivate, and relate to staff, peers, and clients.
  • Ability to project a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Professional and effective communication skills. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the bar areas.
  • Ability to work well and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Effective problem solving, organization, and time management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in team environments.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to accurately handle cash transactions.
  • Basic knowledge of room arrangements and standard table settings.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays, as required. Excellent attendance is required with schedule flexibility.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Bartending/Bar Supervisor experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a high-volume restaurant preferred but not required.
  • Experience at a multi-venue, fast-paced environment preferred but not required.
  • Toast/Microsoft 365 experience preferred but not required.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand for long periods of time (minimum of five hours) and move frequently throughout the lobbies and restaurant. The employee must be able to safely lift, push, pull and easily maneuver up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • The nature of this job requires that the employee work on-site as a regular work routine.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be very loud at some times.
