The Principal Scientist, Medical Physicist, will be responsible for applying their expertise in radiopharmaceutical (RPT)-specific modeling to the research and development of new drugs and therapies. Their focus will be on radiopharmaceutical dose modelling and analyzing data from in vitro and vivo studies as well as clinical diagnostic and therapeutic studies. The candidate will be responsible for leading translational dosimetry analysis such as physiologically based pharmacokinetics or compartmentalization modelling. The candidate will also provide technical support including dosimetry calculations and work in collaboration with internal stakeholders as well as external vendors and experts.
Job Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work closely with Radiation Biophysics/Medical Physics to support all aspects of internal dosimetry analysis in discovery and development of radiopharmaceutical imaging and therapeutic agents.
- Work closely with Discovery to design experiments and perform dosimetric data analysis from imaging modalities like PET (positron emission tomography) and SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) to assess drug uptake and distribution,
- Identify and advise best practices and standardization processes for image data quality control in preclinical research, aligned with current guidance in literature.
- Analyze preclinical and clinical imaging data to advance the translation of animal-to-human dose projection.
- Explore new technologies and modelling approaches to improve the development of radiopharmaceuticals, such as novel radioisotopes including alpha-emitters.
- Contribute to the advancement of medical physics knowledge in the field of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Provide technical support, training and problem-solving solutions to cross-functional teams as needed.
- Applies AI to improve team execution and decision‑making
Education and Experience
- Advanced degree in Medical Physics or Engineering (PhD preferred) with didactic training in RPT biodistribution, kinetics and dose modelling.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in molecular imaging and RPT dose modelling research, or 3 years of extensive RPT-specific publications (10+).
- Experience with radiopharmaceuticals as therapeutics in oncology and experience with alpha-emitters strongly desired
Skills and Qualification
- Subject Matter Expert in mathematical pharmacokinetic modeling and its application in radiopharmaceutical research and development.
- Technical skills with dosimetry software, coding and simulation/modeling/statistical tools (e.g. 3D-RD-S, MIM, MIRDcalc, OLINDA, Torch, GATE, SIMIND, SAAM II, SimBiology, Python, Matlab, R, SPSS, ITK-snap, 3D slicer, Elastix, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and think creatively when problem-solving on multidisciplinary projects.
- Proven track record for coordinating and aligning cross-functional stakeholders to deliver on corporate timeline in a team environment.
- Excellent communications skills and ability to present and discuss imaging and dosimetry topics clearly and concisely, including with scientific experts globally.
