The mission of the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is to foster the expansion of the scale, quality, and impact of scholarly endeavors at UT Austin. We are committed to building capacity, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and lowering the barriers and burden involved in scientific and creative inquiry through the development of an investigator-focused infrastructure that supports the needs of UT Austin's research enterprise.
Purpose
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) seeks a technically skilled and innovative student employee to support the modernization of Human Resources business processes and digital services. This position will evaluate existing Smartsheet-based workflows, forms, and tracking systems; assist with identifying and testing alternative workflow automation platforms; and develop an external-facing OVPR HR SharePoint site that provides user-friendly access to HR resources, forms, processes, and guidance.
Working closely with the Senior Director of Human Resources, the student will contribute to business process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, automation, transparency, and customer experience across OVPR-supported units.
Responsibilities
Business Process Analysis & Documentation
- Working closely with the Sr. Director of Human Resources, reviews and analyzes existing OVPR HR workflows, Smartsheet forms, dashboards, trackers, and automated processes to identify inefficiencies and automation opportunities.
- Develops workflow maps, process documentation, and recommendations for improvement.
Workflow Automation & Technology Evaluation
- Researches, evaluates, and tests two workflow automation platforms to implement as the new workflow automation platform for the OVPR HR.
- Compares platform capabilities, usability, scalability, reporting functionality, and integration opportunities.
SharePoint Development & User Experience Design
- Designs and develops an external-facing OVPR HR SharePoint site.
- Creates organized and user-friendly navigation for HR resources, forms, SOPs, FAQs, and service guides.
Perform other project-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current student at UT Austin and enrolled/registered for the current regular semester, in good academic standing.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude and ability to quickly learn new software platforms and applications.
- Experience creating, organizing, or managing digital content using SharePoint, websites, or comparable platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with HR-related information.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using AI-enabled productivity tools and workflow automation technologies.
- Experience building websites, SharePoint pages, dashboards, or digital knowledge bases.
- Familiarity with user experience (UX) principles and information architecture.
Salary Range
$20 per hour

Work Shift
- Must be available to work 15-19 hours per week
- Flexible work hours between Monday through Friday 7:00AM - 4:30PM based on students' class schedule
