Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is hiring a dependable, hardworking Custodian to help keep our Milwaukee facility clean, safe, organized, and ready to serve our community every day.

This role is about more than keeping things tidy. As a Custodian, you will play an important part in maintaining the food safety and cleanliness standards our warehouse depends on. You will care for warehouse and common areas, operate cleaning equipment, support sanitation and recycling, assist with light maintenance, and help ensure our facility is always ready for employees, volunteers, partners, and food safety audits.

What You Will Do

• Keep warehouse areas, volunteer spaces, the welcome center, breakrooms, restrooms, and other facility areas clean and orderly. 
• Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors and maintain warehouse floor markings. 
• Collect trash and recycling throughout the facility and bale cardboard for recycling. 
• Clean and maintain restrooms and restock supplies as needed. 
• Operate floor-cleaning and other mechanized cleaning equipment. 
• Follow daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning schedules and checklists. 
• Clean and maintain waste disposal areas, including pressure washing as needed. 
• Safely mix, use, and store cleaning products and chemicals in accordance with safety and food safety requirements. 
• Help maintain clean, organized coolers, freezers, warehouse areas, and common spaces. 
• Remove debris from outdoor areas and assist with snow removal and de-icing during winter weather. 
• Move furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies as needed. 
• Operate forklifts and powered pallet jacks after completing required training and certification. 
• Assist with basic facility repairs and light maintenance. 
• Follow food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and organizational procedures to help keep the facility audit-ready at all times.

• Ability to follow established cleaning, sanitation, food safety, and facility procedures. 
• Ability to work independently with direction and as part of a larger team. 
• Ability to safely use mechanized cleaning and facility equipment. 
• Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean and safe environment. 
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced warehouse setting. 
• Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification within two weeks of hire. 
• Ability to work safely and follow established safety procedures. 
• Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. 

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent related experience. 
• Previous custodial, janitorial, warehouse, sanitation, facilities, or similar experience. 
• Previous experience operating cleaning equipment, forklifts, pallet jacks, or other mechanized equipment. 

Physical and Working Conditions

This is an active, hands-on position. The employee will frequently walk, stand, bend, twist, climb, reach, kneel, squat, and use their hands to operate equipment and complete cleaning and facility tasks.

The employee must be able to:

• Lift and move up to 50 pounds 
• Perform physical cleaning and facility work throughout the workday 
• Safely operate cleaning and material-handling equipment after completing required training 
• Work in warehouse environments with moderate to high noise levels 
• Work in refrigerated and freezer environments, including temperatures as low as approximately -10 degrees Fahrenheit 
• Wear closed-toed shoes and appropriate protective or cold-weather clothing
