WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT TO US

SimCorp is establishing a Foundational APIs capability to make core business data and functionality easier to access securely, consistently, and reliably across our products and solutions.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will help turn this ambition into working software. You will design and build API capabilities that support product experiences, integrations, workflows, clients, and approved AI solutions without requiring consumers to understand the complexity of SimCorp’s underlying systems.

You will be a senior, hands-on member of a newly established engineering team in India. You will help the team deliver its first production capabilities, establish effective engineering practices, and make sound implementation decisions across API design, distributed systems, security, reliability, testing, and cloud engineering.

The role requires strong technical depth and practical delivery experience. You will contribute directly to the codebase while guiding other engineers through design discussions, reviews, problem solving, and continuous improvement.

You will collaborate with architects, Product Management, domain experts, Platform teams, and engineers across SimCorp to build capabilities that are valuable today and sustainable as the wider platform evolves.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and operate secure and reliable Foundational API services using C#/.NET and Microsoft Azure.
• Translate business and consumer requirements into clear API contracts, technical designs, and incremental implementation plans.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through coding, design discussions, code reviews, pairing, testing, and production problem resolution.
• Build API capabilities around clear business use cases rather than exposing the complexity of underlying systems and legacy implementations.
• Work with domain experts to understand the business meaning of concepts such as portfolios, positions, transactions, cash, instruments, and settlement information.
• Address distributed-system concerns including latency, partial failure, retries, idempotency, concurrency, resilience, and source-system availability.
• Build scalable and maintainable backend services with appropriate performance, security, and reliability characteristics.
• Assess and reuse existing API frameworks, gateways, integration solutions, domain services, and supported interfaces before introducing new abstractions.
• Create adapters and service components that separate stable consumer contracts from legacy or changing underlying implementations.
• Support the incremental modernization of existing systems without disrupting current consumers and business processes.
• Establish and promote effective engineering practices covering clean code, automated testing, contract testing, secure development, observability, CI/CD, and operational readiness.
• Build comprehensive automated tests across unit, integration, API, contract, and end-to-end levels where appropriate.
• Help define quality controls for API changes, including compatibility, versioning, documentation, security, and production readiness.
• Diagnose performance bottlenecks, production issues, integration failures, and complex defects, and implement sustainable solutions.
• Break complex engineering problems into focused, testable, and releasable increments.
• Collaborate with the Principal Software Engineer and architects on significant technical decisions and convert agreed direction into practical implementation.
• Mentor engineers through technical planning, code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback.
• Promote shared technical ownership and help the team avoid dependency on individual specialists.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Platform, Architecture, Security, Data, and domain engineering teams to deliver integrated capabilities.
• Communicate technical decisions, assumptions, risks, dependencies, and limitations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Continuously improve yourself, the team, our engineering practices, and the Foundational APIs capability.

• More than five years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong programming experience in C# and .NET, with a good understanding of clean, maintainable, and testable code.
• Practical experience designing and developing REST APIs, backend services, and system integrations.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and production deployment.
• Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated quality controls.
• Strong understanding of API design principles, including contracts, resource modelling, versioning, backward compatibility, pagination, filtering, and error handling.
• Experience designing secure backend systems using authentication, authorization, identity, access control, and secrets management.
• Understanding of distributed-system concerns such as latency, resilience, concurrency, partial failure, consistency, idempotency, and safe retries.
• Strong automated-testing skills, including unit, integration, API, contract, and end-to-end testing.
• Experience with observability practices including structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, health monitoring, and operational diagnostics.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Familiarity with messaging, event-driven architecture, service bus patterns, or streaming technologies is valuable.
• Experience with Domain-Driven Design or similar approaches to defining business capabilities and service boundaries is valuable.
• Experience working with legacy systems, modernization initiatives, adapters, or incremental migration is valuable.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to simplify complex technical problems and create maintainable solutions without introducing unnecessary abstraction.
• Ability to balance immediate delivery needs with security, reliability, maintainability, and long-term contract stability.
• Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence through practical guidance and collaboration.
• A continuous-improvement mindset and experience working in an agile engineering environment.
• Experience collaborating in an international product-development organization.
• Strong communication skills and fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or a related field is valuable, but practical engineering experience and demonstrated capability are equally important.
• Interest in learning the investment-management domain and understanding the business meaning behind the capabilities being developed.
• Readiness to learn relevant SimCorp technologies, frameworks, and legacy environments where required.
  

AI-ENABLED DEVELOPMENT

• Use approved AI tools as part of everyday engineering, development, testing, documentation, and technical-discovery workflows.
• Critically evaluate AI-generated code, tests, designs, and documentation for correctness, security, maintainability, and architectural fit.
• Help engineers understand when AI can accelerate delivery and when deeper engineering judgment and review are required.
• Identify opportunities where AI-assisted development can accelerate prototyping, reduce repetitive work, strengthen testing, and improve developer productivity.
• Ensure that AI-generated artifacts meet the same engineering, security, testing, and review standards as other contributions.
