SCHEDULE: Full time; Monday - Friday 5:45 am - 2:15 pm
WAGE: $19.59/hour plus paid time off, medical benefits and more
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position works under the direct supervision of the Wellness Programs + Engagement Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision of other employees is not a normal responsibility of this position.
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW: As the early-morning face of the MJCC, the Opening Shift Welcome Desk Associate sets a welcoming, positive tone for our community. You will serve as the primary point of contact for members, guests, and visitors while handling front-desk operations, program enrollments, and key administrative support for the Wellness Programs + Engagement Manager.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (These examples represent the essential functions of the position. They are not inclusive of all the duties the position may perform.)
- In conjunction with the Wellness Programs + Engagement Manager, this position acts as the Welcome Desk point person when an issue, problem, or concern arises; and troubleshoots to find a solution.
- Perform reception services at the reception counter. Greet and screen Center members and visitors; ensure each visitor signs-in or presents a membership card. Answer multi-line telephone; screen and direct calls to appropriate personnel; take accurate messages. Provide information in response to general inquiries, including questions about membership, programs, schedules, center services, etc.
- Assist members and guests with program enrollment. Accept and receipt payments; reconcile daily cash receipts. Perform related registration procedures as needed.
- Perform data entry of member information. Provide additional office support (e.g., sort incoming mail). Operate office equipment such as copiers, calculators, computers and other related equipment.
- Assume responsibility for following through with member comments or requests. Maintain familiarity with all MJCC and PJA services, programs, and staff. Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of yourself, co-workers, and guests.
- Assure the Welcome Desk is properly stocked with fliers, schedules, membership packets, etc. Create member packets as needed.
- Schedule and manage appointment calendars for Membership tours and Massage appointments.
- Provides support for the Wellness Programs + Engagement Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying. This would typically include:
- Six months of MJCC Welcome Desk experience, OR one year of experience in general office support and experience with office procedures that includes training in the use of multi-line telephone systems.
- Dependable punctuality for morning shifts, strong decision-making skills within established procedures, and the ability to multitask accurately under pressure.
- One year experience in relevant customer service experience.
Knowledge: Knowledge of customer service practices and techniques; knowledge of modern office methods and procedures; knowledge of basic office etiquette.
Skill: Skill in using office equipment, including personal computers and multi-line telephone systems; skill in basic arithmetic, English, spelling, and grammar. Excellent customer service skills and a willingness to interact with staff and members daily.
Ability: Ability to project a positive, professional image; ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing; ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions; ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines; ability to identify, learn and use safe working practices; ability to work effectively with co-workers in a diverse workforce; ability to respond appropriately to question/concerns from other employees and the public; ability to work independently and make decisions within established procedures; ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
PHYSICAL + COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
- Work Environment: Position is performed entirely on-site in an active, customer-facing lobby and office environment at the MJCC facility, requiring close, daily physical interaction with members, guests, and staff.
- Dexterity + Visual Focus: Requires daily precise control of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboards, multi-line telephone systems, copiers, and cash/payment terminals. Involves continuous visual attention and sustained focus on computer screens and printed materials.
- Executive Functioning + Prioritization: Strong ability to self-regulate, organize, and prioritize competing demands during fast-paced, high-volume opening hours (e.g., balancing in-person member check-ins with ringing phone lines and time-sensitive administrative tasks). Ability to exercise sound judgment and troubleshoot issues independently while remaining calm and professional under pressure.
- Memory + Information Processing: Strong working memory and information retention skills to quickly learn, recall, and communicate up-to-date schedules, pricing, program policies, emergency protocols, and staff contact details across both MJCC and PJA operations.
