We are seeking a talented individual to join our investment team at Mercer, a Marsh business. This role will be based in Hong Kong or Singapore.

Alternatives Investment Director Asia (ex-Japan)

The Alternatives Investment Director is a senior investment professional who will report to the Global Head of Alternative Investments. This role is responsible for developing the investment strategy and investment value proposition by client segment to support Mercer wealth’s business objectives through alternatives solutions and services delivery.

We will count on you to:

  • Collaborate with Mercer wealth’s Asia leadership team to support the development of the investment value proposition in alternative assets by client segment, covering private equity, private debt, real assets, infrastructure, hedge funds and more.
  • Coordinate with Alternative Investment Directors in other geographies to deliver a consistent global capability.
  • Lead product development activities and Know-Your-Product initiatives when importing or repackaging investment solutions developed globally.
  • Work with the commercial Leaders and other client facing colleagues to provide subject matter expertise across alternative asset classes.
  • Serve as a bridge to asset class specialists and partner with Regional CIOs and intellectual capital leads to evolve the investment process and contribute to research and thought leadership.
  • Help drive new business and retention by supporting portfolio construction and implementation across vehicles such as Mercer’s PIP platform, SMAs and commingled vehicles.
  • Participate in client and prospect meetings as the Alternatives specialist, contributing to pitches, RFPs and commercial positioning.
  • Promote Mercer Alternatives through thought leadership, PR/ marketing and client channels.
  • Translate Mercer’s alternative service offerings into client solutions, balancing customization and scale.
  • Work with the commercial leaders to build and maintain an actionable pipeline of commercially attractive opportunities and monitor performance against growth targets.

What you need to have:

  • 10-15+ years’ on-the-ground Asia experience specifically in alternatives; business development, investing, portfolio construction and advising institutional/ large discretionary clients on sophisticated mandates.
  • Experience in alternative product development preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of business development, commercial strategy and delivering AUM/ revenue growth.
  • Strong relationship building, influencing and stakeholder management skills across investment, sales and client teams.
  • Ability to articulate complex and technical information to clients/ prospects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
  • Strong analytical skills, project management capability and attention to detail.
  • Team player who is able to collaborate with cross functional teams across different time zones and geographies.
  • Knowledge of global alternatives manager landscape.
  • Tertiary education with a BA/ BS in finance, economics or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • CFA and/or CAIA qualification are added advantages.
