Overview

Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has a full-time opportunity for aSr. VP of Development & Community Engagement in Anaheim, CA.

 

This is a hybrid role (3 days on-site, 2 days remote).

 

The Senior Vice President, Development and Community Engagement is a senior executive responsible for leading PPOSBC’s comprehensive fundraising and philanthropic strategy and developing strategic community engagement partnerships throughout Orange and San Bernardino Counties.

 

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team and reporting directly to the CEO, the SVP, DCE develops and executes initiatives that inspire philanthropic investment, strengthen donor engagement, and generate sustainable revenue to advance the organization's mission and long-term strategic goals on the charitable and political side. They also serve as a visible ambassador for the organization, focusing on executive relationship development, high-value community partnerships, and strategic and tactical support for new program launches.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Public Administration, Marketing, or a related field.

 

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible fundraising leadership experience, including experience leading high-performing development teams. Healthcare experience preferred, particularly reproductive health care experience.
  • Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure transformational gifts.
  • Experience developing and leading comprehensive fundraising programs with multiple revenue streams. Experience building a strong foundation and taking a successful team to the next level. 
  • Must have experience fundraising for political organizations/PACs.

 

Supervisory Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability as an effective leader including coaching and team-building skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Budgeting experience.
  • Excellent strategic planning skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work without direct supervision.

  • Must demonstrate high-level computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Electronic medical records experience may also be required.
  • This position requires travel to other sites and locations; if using a personal vehicle to meet this requirement, a valid CA driver’s license and current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required.
  • Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPOSBC locations and by all PPOSBC employees, and supporting these critical services is an essential job duty and fundamental responsibility of all employees.

 

This position requires/prefers bilingual [Spanish, Vietnamese, Farsi] skills (reading, writing, and speaking). Qualified candidates will be tested for proficiency prior to offer.

 

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions: Essential functions encompass the required tasks, duties, and responsibilities performed as part of the job and the reason the job exists.

 

Development

  • Oversee all aspects of the Development department. Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for both the C3 and C4 aligned with the organization's strategic plan and financial goals, inclusive of major giving, events, annual giving program, donor circles, direct mail, planned giving, grants, and transformational campaigns.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing development team capable of achieving the organization's ambitious philanthropic goals.
  • Architect and execute principal gift strategies, specifically targeting ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family foundations, and institutional donors across Southern California for transformational gifts and legacy opportunities.
  • Build and pitch sophisticated, multi-year investment models that secure predictable, long-term funding streams and provide infrastructure for transformational growth and impact in the community.
  • Explore and develop donor circles to foster ongoing donor engagement and build lasting relationships with supporters
  • Provide high-level strategic direction for ongoing and upcoming capital campaigns, ensuring PPOSBC’s physical and clinical expansion goals are fully capitalized ahead of schedule, as well as establish an endowment campaign model
  • Audit and re-engage PPOSBC’s existing network of historical supporters, institutional partners, and corporate allies, identifying latent giving capacity and structuring new, high-yield sponsorship models.
  • Advise President/CEO on opportunities for meeting with supporters and building a communication plan to stay engaged with long-time and high-impact donors.
  • Serve as executive staff liaison to Board of Directors and Development Committee and partner with Development Committee Chair to engage Board members in philanthropic activities. Provide messaging guidance and fundraising training to Board and Development Committee members to increase their skills in gift solicitation.
  • Collaborate with other Planned Parenthood affiliates on joint fundraising opportunities. Participate in national Development Officer meetings and workgroups and serve as liaison to national office.

Community Engagement

  • Develop and execute a strategic external engagement plan which includes meeting with specific stakeholders, attending relevant civic, corporate and philanthropic events, and speaking on behalf of the organization.
  • Maintain a consistent and strategic presence in the community to cultivate strong collaborative partnerships with organizations and individuals that will grow PPOSBC business and revenue.
  • Represent the organization at political, civic, and community events to increase organization influence.
  • Identify opportunities to build coalitions that increase both financial investment and organizational influence.
  • Have a clear understanding of all PPOSBC departments and establish strong communication and working relationships across the organization to ensure they support organizational growth initiatives by aligning community investment with strategic priorities and expansion plans.
  • Partner with external organizations to develop new joint programs and initiatives that support PPOSBC mission and organizational strategic plan. Serve as liaison with external partners and internal leaders to plan, operationalize, and maintain new programs.  Partner on joint fundraising and community engagement activities for new endeavors.

Executive Team Member

  • Responsible for preparing and managing budget for Risk, Legal, and Compliance Department, making recommendations for cost containment strategies and ensuring department meets budget goals, in partnership with CFO.
  • Serve as member of Executive Team, supporting culture of collaboration and accountability and providing leadership and mentorship that represents organizational WE CARE values and mission throughout organization.
  • Serve as executive staff liaison to Board of Directors and Development Committee, and partner with Development Committee Chair to engage Board members in philanthropic activities. Provide messaging guidance and fundraising training to Board and Development Committee members to increase their skills in gift solicitation.
