Job Summary: The CDL Driver/Laborer is responsible for the safe operation of commercial vehicles equipped with dump bodies to transport and unload materials essential for utility construction projects, with a focus on natural gas and underground utilities. This role also involves performing various manual labor tasks to support construction activities, ensuring adherence to all safety and operational standards.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain commercial vehicles (CDL Class A or B) with dump bodies to transport and unload materials such as sand, gravel, and construction equipment.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Load and unload equipment and materials, ensuring proper securing of loads to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Comprehensive understanding of DOT regulations and safety compliance related to commercial vehicle operation.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and commercial vehicles in various construction environments.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and safety guidelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with team members and supervisors.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform labor-intensive tasks in diverse weather conditions.
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration to achieve project goals efficiently.
- Assist in various construction tasks, including but not limited to:
- Excavation and trenching for underground utility installations.
- Installation and maintenance of natural gas pipelines and related infrastructure.
- Backfilling and compaction of excavated areas.
- Restoration of work sites, including paving and landscaping.
- Adhere to all company safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in safety meetings.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and site personnel to ensure efficient workflow and address any issues promptly.
- Complete and maintain accurate records, including vehicle logs, load tickets, and maintenance reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion and company objectives.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Climbing ladders and working at heights as required.
- Extended periods of sitting and driving.
Education/Experience:
- Valid CDL Class A or B license with a clean driving record.
- Valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction driving, preferably in utility construction.
- Vocational training or certification in construction-related fields.
- Experience with natural gas utility construction and underground utility installations.
- Familiarity with excavation safety practices and trenching operations.
