Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Journeyman Electrician to join our Critical Environments Team. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and inspection of mission-critical electrical infrastructure supporting data centers, network operations facilities, central utility plants, and other critical business operations.
The successful candidate will possess extensive experience working with complex electrical distribution systems where reliability, resiliency, safety, and uptime are paramount. This individual must be capable of working independently, leading electrical projects, mentoring team members, and supporting critical infrastructure that operates in a 24/7 environment.
This role is ideal for a seasoned electrician seeking a stable daytime schedule while contributing to a highly professional critical facilities operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical distribution systems up to 480V.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on:
Switchgear and switchboards
Circuit breakers
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
Emergency generators
Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
Static Transfer Switches (STS)
Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
Electrical distribution panels and associated infrastructure
Support electrical systems serving data centers, network operations facilities, central plants, and mission-critical building infrastructure.
Execute electrical switching procedures, load transfers, shutdowns, and maintenance activities while adhering to established safety protocols.
Participate in change management and maintenance planning activities for critical systems.
Inspect, test, and evaluate electrical equipment to ensure system reliability and compliance with applicable standards.
Perform root cause analysis of electrical failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, technical drawings, construction documents, coordination studies, and arc flash studies.
Support capital improvement projects, equipment replacements, infrastructure upgrades, and new system installations.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, engineers, and facility stakeholders to successfully execute maintenance and project activities.
Maintain detailed maintenance records, switching logs, inspection reports, and operational documentation.
Lead and mentor apprentice and journeyman electricians while promoting a culture of safety, professionalism, and operational excellence.
Participate in emergency response activities and support restoration efforts during critical incidents.
Required Qualifications
· Active Journeyman Electrician License.
· Minimum of 7-10 years of commercial, industrial, or mission-critical electrical experience.
· Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
· Extensive experience with 120V, 208V, 277V, and 480V electrical systems.
· Experience maintaining and troubleshooting:
o Switchgear
o Breakers
o ATS systems
o UPS systems
o Emergency generators
o Power distribution systems
o Motors and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
· Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
· Experience working under Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
· Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
· Strong communication and leadership abilities.
· Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience working in mission-critical environments, including:
o Data Centers
o Network Operations Centers
Critical Operations Facilities
Central Utility Plants
Industrial Campuses
· Experience with UPS systems, generator paralleling equipment, power monitoring systems, and critical power distribution infrastructure.
· NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training and Certification.
· Experience performing infrared thermography inspections and electrical testing.
· Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and electrical monitoring systems.
· Previous supervisory, lead technician, or project leadership experience.
· Experience with commissioning and startup of critical facility electrical systems.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
· Ability to work in electrical rooms, equipment rooms, data centers, central plants, and outdoor environments.
· Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including arc flash protective gear.
· Ability to respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours when necessary.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
24/7 critical operations
Occasional overtime planned maintenance windows, outage support, or emergency response activities may be required to support 24/7 critical operations.
