Tax Operations Supervisor : JL3
We are looking for an experienced Tax Operations Supervisor to lead and oversee corporate tax compliance, reporting, tax accounting, and tax authority engagement across the Africa region. This is a critical role that will ensure tax obligations are met accurately and on time while proactively managing tax risks, audits, and controversies in a complex and dynamic operating environment.
The successful candidate will partner with regional and global stakeholders to drive compliance excellence, strengthen audit readiness, and support strategic tax initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance, Reporting & Tax Authority Engagement
Manage and deliver corporate tax compliance across the African region, including corporate income tax, withholding taxes, freight taxes, and transfer pricing returns, ensuring positions are technically robust and defensible under tax authority scrutiny.
Ensure the accurate, complete, and timely preparation, review, and submission of all tax returns and statutory filings, with a focus on minimizing audit exposure and dispute risk.
Deliver global and regional tax reporting requirements, including CbCR and Pillar Two, ensuring alignment with local audit and disclosure expectations.
Support the team interacting with tax authorities across Africa region, leading audits, investigations, enquiries, assessments and information requests in high-audit environments.
Support the end-to-end management of tax controversies, including strategy development, preparation of technical submissions, reconciliations, objections, and negotiation of audit outcomes, in collaboration with internal teams and external advisors where required.
Drive a disciplined, proactive audit readiness framework, ensuring contemporaneous documentation, technical position papers, and supporting evidence are maintained and readily defensible.
Manage tax accounting and provisioning requirements within the region, including current tax, deferred tax, and uncertain tax positions, with clear linkage to audit and dispute risk.
Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Support and enhance standardized tax processes, controls and governance frameworks designed to withstand tax authority review and challenge.
Work closely with finance, legal, and business teams to anticipate tax authority focus areas, address data and documentation gaps and strengthen the internal control environment.
Leverage technology and data solutions to improve audit readiness, support technical analysis and enable efficient and effective engagement with tax authorities.
Risk Management & Governance
Identify, assess and actively mange tax risks arising from operations, transactions and evolving regulatory practices within Africa region.
Support internal and external audit processes, including preparation of audit-ready documentation and timely resolution of findings related to tax authority exposure.
Strategic Input & Team Contribution
Monitor tax law, regulatory, and enforcement developments across the region and assess their impact on audit risk, controversy exposure, and business operations.
Provide senior, practical tax advisory input to business and finance teams, with a focus on structuring transactions and operations that are sustainable under tax authority scrutiny.
Act as a trusted senior individual contributor, bringing judgement, experience, and authority-facing credibility to regional tax discussions and initiatives.
Professional tax and/or accounting qualification (i.e., chartered accountant/CPA/ACCA).
Minimum 5 years’ post qualification experience.
Proven track record in tax compliances, filings, controversy support including leading responses to tax audits, enquiries, assessments and dispute resolution with tax authorities.
Strong technical knowledge with the ability to develop and defend technically robust tax positions.
Demonstrated ability to operate independently in a multi-jurisdictional environment, managing multiple authority interactions and deadlines.
Fluent in English and knowledge of French language will be an added advantage
