Job Title: Financial Counselor- Behavioral Health   
Department:  Patient Coordination
Location:  Outpatient Mental Health - RMHC, 1381 East Ridge Rd, Suite 5,Rochester, NY 14621,United States of America
Hours Per Week: 40 
Schedule:  Full-Time, Day Shift Monday to Friday, (8 am -4:30 pm)

Position Summary:
Works with patients to assure that they meet their financial obligations to Rochester Regional Health System.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the co-pay collection process in multiple buildings within Behavioral Health.

  • Initiate contact with Patients/Family members at the time of service when self pay balances are not made. Secure payment/payment arrangements.

  • Continuously meet with patients to carry out their payment arrangements.

  • Monitor patient billing accounts regularly to assess payment compliance.

  • Reduce bad debts within assigned areas by goal and objective amounts.

  • Assess patient financial information to identify patients that may qualify for Financial Assistance or FHP.

  • Complete Financial Assistance applications as needed and collect all necessary financial documentation.

  • Work monthly Medicaid report and follow up on identified insurance changes.

  • Must work with Financial Case Management team to monitor status of Medicaid pending applicants.

  • Acts as a liaison between clinical, physician and Patient Accounting staff.

  • Responsible for compiling data for co-pay reporting monthly.

  • Researches issues/problems related to cash flow/hospital receivable, developing and implementing plans as needed.

  • Interacts regularly with clinical staff regarding patients failing to meet financial obligations.

  • Travel between Behavioral Health sites as needed to perform job duties.

  • Any other duties as assigned by Front End Coordinator or Behavioral Health Administrator.

  • Update billing accounts as needed with new insurance/demographic information.

  • 2 years of relevant experience
