Join a Distinguished Academic Advanced Endoscopy Program.Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health are seeking an Advanced Endoscopy Gastroenterologist – Academic Faculty to join our established and growing academic gastroenterology program in Philadelphia.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an advanced endoscopist who wants to combine dedicated advanced endoscopy clinical care, high volume technically challenging advanced endoscopy procedures, AEF training, medical education, and research within a nationally recognized academic health system.
We are particularly interested in a physician with strong clinical and technical expertise in Third-Space Endoscopy who can contribute to the continued growth of Jefferson’s advanced therapeutic(omit) endoscopy program.
Job Description
A Program Built on Clinical Excellence, Education & Innovation
The Advanced Endoscopy program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has been training advanced endoscopists since 2001, graduating 27 advanced endoscopy fellows.

Third-Space Endoscopy (omit)
POEM, Z-POEM, and G-POEM
Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD)
EFTR and STER
Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)
ERCP
Cholangioscopy
EUS
EUS guided pancreatic cyst and PNET ablation
Deep enteroscopy
Enteral stenting
Advanced polyp resection (omit)
Barrett’s esophagus ablation
Endohepatology
Endoscopic Vacuum Assisted Closure (EVAC)
Third-Space Endoscopy (omit)
Third-Space Endoscopy is a key focus of this position.
We are seeking an advanced endoscopist with demonstrated clinical and technical expertise in third-space endoscopy
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
Perform complex third-space procedures
Evaluate patients referred for advanced endoscopic and specifically third space consultation
Contribute to the growth of Jefferson’s Third-Space Endoscopy program
Teach fellows and trainees advanced therapeutic (endoscopic) techniques
Participate in clinical research and scholarly activity
Collaborate with gastroenterologists, surgeons and other specialists
Contribute to innovation in therapeutic endoscopy
Clinical & Academic Faculty Role
This position combines a robust clinical practice with meaningful academic responsibilities.
Clinical responsibilities may include:
Advanced therapeutic endoscopy
EUS and ERCP
Third-Space Endoscopy
POEM/G-POEM
EMR/ESD
Multidisciplinary management of complex inpatient and outpatient advanced endoscopy, TSE, and pancreaticobiliary patients
Development of a specialized advanced endoscopy practice

The program is part of Jefferson’s Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, led by David M. Kastenberg, MD, The J. Edward Berk Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division. With more than three decades of clinical, academic, and research experience, Dr. Kastenberg provides distinguished leadership across the division.
The Advanced Endoscopy Program is led by an accomplished team of faculty, including Rishi Pawa, MD, Director of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Thomas Kowalski, MD, Director of the Pancreaticobiliary & Advanced Endoscopy Section.

M.D. or D.O. degree
Completion of an ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology fellowship
Fellowship training in Advanced Endoscopy
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
Demonstrated proficiency in advanced endoscopic procedures
Extensive clinical and technical experience in Third-Space Endoscopy
Proficient with POEM, G-POEM, ESD and EMR
Extensive experience with EUS and ERCP
Demonstrated commitment to medical education
Interest in clinical research and scholarly activity
Excellent communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania
