Description
King County Sheriff's Office has an outstanding opportunity for the position of Special Duty Assignment/Term-Limited Human Resources Associate in the Human Resources Unit. This classification performs a wide variety of administrative tasks in support of our HR processes. This position will also provide a high level of customer service to the public and internal staff.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative team. You will learn various HR duties and gain an opportunity to assist with document retention, support a positive candidate experience for our hiring efforts, all while serving the members of the community and within the Sheriff’s Office organization.
This term-limited temporary (TLT) position is eligible for benefits and is expected to last thru December 31, 2027.

The HR Associate maintains human resources related databases including Laserfiche and performs a wide range of human resource activities under supervision. The responsibilities and functions of the Special Duty Assignment/Term-Limited Temporary HR Associate classification include but are not limited to the following duties:
- Primary duty is organizing and filing a variety of documentation and paperwork utilizing Laserfiche, including scanning and uploading.
- Verifying documentation and updating various electronic databases to include data entry.
- Communicate a wide variety of information to employees and the public; research and respond to inquiries; apply established rules, regulations, labor contracts and employment laws when responding to inquiries and processing paperwork.
- Assist in determining eligibility for a variety of human resource programs according to established criteria and procedures.
- Process and support personnel transactions such as scheduling activities for selection and backgrounding, fingerprinting and performing related activities; interpret and apply rules and regulations.
- Compose and draft documents, and/or correspondence.
- Assist with managing the office environment by maintaining an inventory of office supplies and serving as a liaison on facility needs.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and secure sensitive files and information.
- Other duties as assigned
This position requires skill in supporting the HR function with a wide variety of administrative duties. Required qualifications include:
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and programs of human resources.
- Skill in developing and maintaining databases.
- Skill is assessing, interpreting and identifying options and problems.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including maintaining confidentiality, navigating sensitive situations, and communicating with tact and diplomacy.
- Skilled in providing customer service to a diverse population, both members of the public and internal employees. Provide professional written communication and excellent customer service in person and over the phone.
- Demonstrated proficiency in entering and tracking data; such as searching, retrieving, scanning, logging and filing records from databases, electronic files and hard copy files.
- Writing skills sufficient to compose, edit and maintain a variety of documents, reports and correspondences using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation, with the ability to pay close attention to detail and proofread work carefully.
- Strong initiative and accountability in tracking work assignments, prioritizing workload, adapting to changes and following through on assignments.
- Detail oriented with great attention to quality and accuracy.
- Good keyboarding skills with experience using MS Office Suite and Laserfiche or other relevant software.
- Skilled in working independently with minimal guidance.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- You must be a United States citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident, or deferred action childhood arrival (DACA) recipient.
- You must have the ability to read, speak and write in the English language fluently.
- Verify that you do not meet any of the KCSO Automatic Disqualifying Behavior requirements.
- You must be able to meet all KCSO background standards as listed in section 10.14 of the Civil Service Rules. Background requirements will be evaluated throughout the hiring process.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must pass thorough background investigation, to include fingerprinting and a polygraph.
- For KCSO employees: if applying as a special duty assignment, KCSO employees must have approval from their chain of command
WORK SCHEDULE & LOCATION: This hybrid position follows a Monday-Friday schedule, requires working 8-hour days and will work onsite a minimum of three (3) days per week at the Black River building, located at 900 Oakesdale Avenue SW, Renton.
