POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Configuration Manager to establish, maintain, and enforce configuration management (CM) processes for a complex federal IT program. This role ensures the integrity of the program's configuration baseline, manages the change control process, and maintains accurate CMDBs and asset inventories in alignment with federal CM standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement, and manage the program's Configuration Management Plan (CMP) and supporting procedures in accordance with NIST SP 800-128 and federal CM standards
- Establish and maintain configuration baselines for hardware, software, and network components; track and document all changes to baseline configurations
- Chair or support the Change Control Board (CCB); coordinate change requests, impact assessments, approvals, and implementation verification
- Manage the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and asset inventory; ensure accuracy, completeness, and reconciliation with deployed environments
- Conduct configuration audits (functional and physical) to verify compliance with approved baselines and identify unauthorized changes
- Collaborate with security teams to ensure CM processes support ATO activities, continuous monitoring, and POA&M tracking
- Develop and deliver CM status reports, metrics, and briefings for program leadership and the federal client
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of configuration management experience in a federal IT program
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing CM plans and managing CCB processes
- Proficiency with CMDB tools (ServiceNow, Remedy, or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of NIST SP 800-128, ITIL change management, and federal CM requirements
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; experience preparing CM documentation packages
Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust background investigation (MBI or HBI). U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ITIL 4 Foundation or Practitioner certification
- Experience with automated CM tools
- Background supporting NIH, HHS, or federal civilian research environments
