Overview

JOB SUMMARY The Charge RN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for patients on the medical surgical services based on established clinical nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Serves as the Resource nurse role when oriented and as directed. Supports the organization vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patient's age, developmental status, spiritual and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care. 

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Coordination: Monitor and coordinate daily patient care activities, ensuring appropriate staff scheduling and coverage to meet patient care needs.
  • Clinical Leadership: Act as a resource for staff, particularly when patient conditions deteriorate. Ensure physicians, nursing supervisors, and family members are notified of changes in condition.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the provision of direct nursing evaluation, care, and consultation. Assume responsibility for patient care while covering staff for breaks and rest periods.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Ensure full compliance with Code Blue, Fire, Emergency, and Disaster plans as they occur.
  • Quality & Safety: Oversee quality assurance activities, promote workplace safety, and maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Operations: Participate in program development and the implementation of operating policies and procedures. Monitor department equipment and supply usage for cost-effectiveness and safety.
  • Team Support: Assist the Director with employee counseling, annual performance reviews, and the new hire interview process.
  • Liaison: Coordinate services with other patient care units, maintain communication with allied services, and intervene in patient or visitor complaints/concerns as needed.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Licensure: Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Certifications:
    • Current BCLS, ACLS (required AHA).
    • PALS ( required AHA)
    • AB508 and NIHSS (Upon hire and maintained).
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of acute care experience.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
    • Commitment to quality improvement and professional standards.
