Description
About Fuse
Fuse is a fusion energy company building the last energy source humanity will ever need. In an era where clean, scalable power dictates the future, Fuse is accelerating the transition to commercially viable fusion technology. Our infrastructure forms the backbone for world-class pulsed-power systems, from advanced radiation testing environments to large-scale fusion generator facilities.
Driven by a high-velocity culture, Fuse combines breakthrough engineering with rapid physical execution. The team works at the frontier of high-energy physics, defense technology, and hardware development — a company defined by mission urgency, technical rigor, and zero-to-one infrastructure execution.
The Opportunity
As the Head of Infrastructure, you will report directly to the CEO and own Fuse's entire capital development function — permitting, construction, contractor management, and facility execution. You will step into a high-ownership leadership role responsible for finishing our flagship San Leandro facility, supporting our Albuquerque radiation testing buildout, and leading greenfield development for a first-of-its-kind fusion plant.
You will act as the single point of accountability for physical expansion, navigating complex regulatory landscapes, coordinating architects and engineers, and building the team necessary to scale our infrastructure. This is an on-site, hands-on leadership role for a high-velocity doer who thrives in startup environments and builds systems from the ground up.
What You’ll Do
- Architect, own, and execute all permitting, construction, and regulatory strategy across San Leandro, Albuquerque, and future greenfield fusion plant sites
- Manage contractors, vendors, and suppliers end-to-end: sourcing, contracting, coordinating, and driving accountability across multiple high-stakes, simultaneous projects
- Lead complex facility buildouts for advanced machine installations, including large-scale oil tanks, specialized machine shops, and generator housing for Titan II
- Build and manage the supply chain for custom components (e.g., high-voltage capacitors), evaluating domestic and international manufacturing paths
- Build, hire, and scale an infrastructure team (scaling to 3+ direct reports within six months) as the capital project portfolio expands
- Serve as the primary liaison to municipal, state, and regulatory bodies, finding creative, compliant shortcuts through standard bureaucratic timelines
- Read, evaluate, and direct structural, MEP, and civil engineering designs in close collaboration with architects, technical teams, and external contractors
You Should Have
- 5+ years of experience leading capital projects, facility buildouts, permitting, and construction management, ideally within a top space, defense, or energy company
- Proven track record shipping large-scale infrastructure projects from 0 to 1 in high-velocity or startup environments
- Educational background in engineering (Civil Engineering strongly preferred) with the ability to review and evaluate complex structural, MEP, and civil schematics • Deep, practical knowledge of building codes, fire codes, zoning, and environmental regulations across multiple jurisdictions
- Strong entrepreneurial "doer" mentality with a bias for action and a demonstrated history of creatively navigating regulatory constraints
- Ability to work on-site 5 days a week at our headquarters in San Leandro, CA, with availability to support regional project sites
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident to meet ITAR compliance requirements
