Job Description
At Gilead, we’re creating a healthier world for all people. We are seeking a dynamic and strategic communications leader to serve as Senior Director, Internal & Employee Communications. This pivotal role is responsible for developing and executing an integrated employee communications strategy that advances Gilead’s enterprise priorities, strengthens employee engagement, and connects employees to the company’s mission, strategy, values, culture, and business priorities. The role will ensure employees receive clear, timely, relevant, and engaging communications that connect business priorities to the employee experience and build understanding, trust, alignment, and connection across the organization. .
This role will partner across Communications, Legal, Public Affairs, and business functions to develop clear, consistent messaging that supports key organizational initiatives and business objectives. The successful candidate will bring strong communications expertise, excellent writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple communications programs in a complex, matrixed environment.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Employee Engagement, this role will work collaboratively across teams to ensure communications are aligned, effective, and delivered through the appropriate channels.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Strategy & Execution
Develop and implement communications plans that support enterprise priorities, organizational initiatives, and employee engagement.
Create clear, compelling communications materials including business updates, presentations, talking points, leader communications, FAQs, and enterprise announcements.
Translate complex business initiatives and organizational changes into accessible and engaging communications.
Draft and refine communications content for a variety of internal audiences and channels.
Support the development of messaging that reinforces company priorities, culture, and organizational goals.
Ensure consistency of messaging across communications programs and initiatives.
Partner with Communications Center of Excellence teams, including Internal Communications, Employee Engagement, Digital Communications, and Issues Management, to coordinate communications activities.
Collaborate with Human Resources, Legal, Public Affairs, and business stakeholders to ensure communications are aligned with organizational objectives.
Support the planning and execution of communications during periods of organizational change or business transformation.
Support communications initiatives that foster engagement, transparency, and understanding across the organization.
Help develop communication approaches that enhance awareness of business priorities and organizational initiatives.
Utilize employee feedback and engagement insights to improve communications effectiveness.
Manage multiple communications projects simultaneously, ensuring high-quality execution and timely delivery.
Partner with external agencies and vendors as needed to support communications programs.
Monitor communications effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
Significant experience in corporate communications, internal communications, employee engagement, or related fields.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
Experience supporting communications for organizational change, business transformation, or enterprise initiatives.
Ability to build strong partnerships and influence outcomes across a matrixed organization.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive business matters.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience within healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated industries preferred.
Bachelor's Degree and 14+ years of relevant experience, OR
Master's Degree and 12+ years of relevant experience, OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in corporate communications, employee engagement, change communications, or organizational communications.
Experience working within a global, matrixed organization.
Healthcare, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
