We are a global team focused on disciplined capital allocation and long-term value creation for all stakeholders, who care deeply about our impact on communities and the wider world.

As part of our continued growth in the London market, we are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our UK Energy and Construction Underwriting team. This role will focus on the underwriting and profitable development of an international portfolio of Contractors All Risks (CAR), Erection All Risks (EAR), and associated Energy & Construction risks written through London markets.

Role Overview

The Underwriter will be responsible for managing and growing a profitable portfolio of international Energy & Construction business, with a particular focus on CAR/EAR risks. The successful candidate will possess strong technical underwriting expertise, established broker relationships in the London wholesale market, and experience underwriting complex multinational construction and infrastructure projects.

This is a production-oriented role requiring an entrepreneurial underwriter who can identify opportunities for profitable growth while maintaining underwriting discipline and adherence to Everest's risk appetite.

  • Build and maintain a profitable portfolio within delegated authority while achieving growth, retention, and profitability objectives.

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with key London market brokers, wholesale intermediaries, and clients.

  • Actively identify new business opportunities across international construction sectors

  • Lead negotiations with brokers and clients regarding coverage structure, pricing, deductible strategy, capacity deployment, and policy terms.

  • Monitor portfolio performance, market trends, claims activity, and emerging industry risks to support profitable underwriting outcomes.

  • Collaborate with Claims, Risk Engineering, Actuarial, Exposure Management, Legal, and Operations teams to deliver superior client service and portfolio results.

  • Contribute to product development initiatives and underwriting strategy for the Energy & Construction portfolio.

  • Mentor junior underwriters and assist in technical training, peer reviews, and underwriting quality initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with underwriting governance, regulatory requirements, delegated authorities, and internal control frameworks.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification.

  • Typically 8+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with significant expertise in Energy & Construction insurance.

  • Demonstrated experience underwriting international CAR/EAR business through the London market.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Construction and engineering risks

    • Project financing structures

    • DSU exposures

    • Contractual risk allocation

    • International project placements

  • Experience managing broker relationships and producing new business in a wholesale distribution environment.

  • Strong technical pricing and risk assessment capabilities.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lloyd's market underwriting experience strongly preferred.

  • Established broker network within the London wholesale and Lloyd's markets.

  • Experience underwriting major multinational construction and infrastructure projects across EMEA, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and North America.

  • Professional insurance qualifications such as ACII, FCII, or equivalent.

  • Experience working across delegated authority, open market, and facultative placements.
