Renishaw is a global, high precision engineering technologies group. Our Additive Manufacturing Group designs, develops and supports metal additive manufacturing systems that use laser powder bed fusion technology to build complex metal components layer by layer.
We are looking for a Service Technical Writer to join the team and help develop the next generation of service, maintenance and support documentation for Renishaw additive manufacturing products. This role will suit someone who can understand complex engineering systems, work closely with subject matter experts, and turn technical information into clear, accurate and actionable content for service engineers, support teams, distributors and internal stakeholders.
You will create and maintain documentation covering service procedures, maintenance tasks, fault finding, installation support, parts information, safety-critical instructions and product change updates. You will also contribute to AMG’s transition towards structured, reusable content using a Component Content Management System (CCMS), helping to improve consistency, governance and content reuse across the service documentation lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Author, edit and maintain service documentation for AMG products, including maintenance procedures, diagnostic workflows, troubleshooting guidance, installation and retrofit support material, service bulletins, parts information and release-related documentation updates.
Work with service engineers, product development teams, systems engineers, software teams, safety specialists and product managers to gather, validate and structure technical information.
Translate complex technical information into clear, concise and accurate procedures for our global service teams that support safe and effective servicing of metal additive manufacturing systems.
Review and improve existing documentation to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, usability and alignment with Renishaw style, terminology and quality standards.
Support structured authoring practices by creating modular, reusable content suitable for use in a CCMS and for delivery across multiple channels.
Manage documentation tasks through agreed review, approval and release workflows, ensuring content is delivered in line with project and product change schedules.
Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation processes, templates, terminology, metadata and content governance.
Key requirements
Degree-level qualification or higher in engineering, science, technical communication, English, communications or an equivalent discipline.
Experience in technical authoring, technical communication, service documentation or a closely related engineering documentation role.
Ability to understand complex mechanical, electrical, software-controlled or industrial equipment systems and communicate them clearly to technical audiences.
Strong written English, with the ability to write precise, user-focused instructions, warnings, cautions, notes and procedural content.
Experience working with subject matter experts to gather information, resolve ambiguity and validate technical accuracy.
Excellent attention to detail, with a structured approach to managing versions, reviews, feedback and documentation changes.
Comfortable using Microsoft Word and CCMS platforms such as Heretto.
Familiarity with structured authoring formats such as DITA.
Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple documentation tasks and priorities across different product or service workstreams.
Desirable requirements
Knowledge of additive manufacturing, laser powder bed fusion, metal powder handling, motion systems, lasers, pneumatics, safety systems or machine control software.
Experience writing service documentation specifically for industrial capital equipment.
Experience creating or briefing technical illustrations, exploded views, diagrams, flowcharts or visual service procedures.
Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps, PLM, ERP, CRM, service management systems or engineering change processes would be advantageous.
