Job Description Summary

To deliver professional and consistent support to young people who are homeless or at risk of experiencing homelessness. To support the case management team in the ongoing implementation of case management plans and create a therapeutic environment within the crisis accommodation setting.

Based at Oasis Youth Service Crisis accommodation in Surry Hills. The service is operational 24/7 .

Oasis Youth Service’s Crisis Accommodation Service is committed to working in partnership with young people to address the issues contributing to their unique experience of crisis & homelessness, with a particular focus on assisting young people to:

  • Develop life and living skills to prepare for independence 
  • Address issues in relation to health & wellbeing
  • Promote opportunities to overcome exclusion and isolation 
  • Explore education, employment pathways and participation 
  • Work towards long term sustainable housing 

Youth Services staff work within a trauma & psychologically informed practice environment; all staff are expected to work creatively towards ensuring that the support needs of all young people are the first priority.

The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

HOURS AND SALARY

The position is casual position available on a 24/7 rotating roster. Roster does include weekend shifts and overnight stand up shifts where you are required to be awake. Please do not apply if you cannot commit to this.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Crisis Accommodation, level 1.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE 

  • Tertiary qualification in social sciences, welfare or related field with a degree qualification preferred. Relevant experience in a social service environment.
  • A strong commitment to working with in a trauma and psychologically informed environment. 
  • Ability to create a culturally safe and inclusive workplace/ Crisis accommodation
  • Experience in working with young people in crisis intervention & homelessness. 
  • Ability to work to the direction of case management plans in assisting young people to attend appointments relating to health, housing, finances, education, justice, and social inclusion as required.
  • Ability to respond immediately and effectively to unsafe situations on site including client critical incidents.
  • Capacity to manage time & competing demands in a high volume crisis setting, whilst maintaining record keeping and reporting requirements
  • Current NSW Driver’s License
  • Senior First Aid certificate
  • Valid NSW Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
