Job Responsibilities
Implements procedures focused on ensuring and improving the safety and health of workers and their surroundings. These processes play a significant role in achieving and maintaining the overall safety and environmental goals of the organization. Focuses on the relationships between people and their environment; promotes human health and well-being; and fosters healthy and safe communities.
Ensure facility safety policies and procedures are in full compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal rules & regulations
Serve as ambassador of the Koppers Zero Harm Program both locally and at the corporate level
Experience in developing and implementing safety programs and policies
Maintain requisite files and records
Mentor/coach hourly employees at facility in safe methods and correct procedures for accomplishing daily assigned tasks
Participate in behavioral based observation program
Coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices
Administer the Safe Permit to Work program
Manage company safety policies and OSHA compliance programs
Evaluate Health and Safety methods, policies, procedures and programs
Coordinate and engage with the site Safety Committee
Execute safety training
Establish and supervise an employee-based safety committee.
Manage OSHA compliance programs
Research regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices
Confidentially handle records and follow policy on information release
Periodically inspect facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where needed and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Lead the investigation of accidents and injuries
Order safety gear and supplies for workplace
Stay up to date on state and federal health & safety regulations
Conducts emergency drills to gauge site & employee readiness
Consult with site managers regarding the implementation of new safety procedures
Address any workplace-related health issues and accidents
Compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies
Oversee the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time
Coordinate with Corporate Safety & Culture and Engagement in the onboarding process for newly hired employees
Conduct contractor safety training and assist in monitoring contractor work at the facility for safety compliance
Performs other duties as assigned
Candidate Qualifications/ Requirements
SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) related degree or;
Other college degree with 1-2 years SHE related experience or;
>5 years relevant SHE work experience.
Hands-on work ethic with the proficiency to put the health and well-being of our employees, environment and community first in an industrial atmosphere
Comfortable managing/coaching/mentoring at the plant floor level
Previous work experience in the health and safety field is required
Excellent organizational skills
Computer proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to work in a team environment is a must
Strong leadership, communication, and training skills
Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
Management experience preferred
