Overview of the Team / Role:
Building and providing a first-class Client Relation function globally, the VP, Client Relations, Japan will be responsible for maintaining day-to-day contact with our clients, responding to events, writing and issuing client communications, coordinating investment reporting and any fund related activities, as well as acting as the primary translator from English to Japanese, and vice versa when required.
The role also requires identifying client needs and producing tailored investment strategy materials, adjusting content and tone depending on institutional investors or retail investors; taking ownership of quality control across client deliverables, including reviewing reports and materials produced by junior team members prior to the final distribution. The main objective from a team perspective is to ensure that our investors receive excellent client service.
Key responsibilities:
Manage daily client communications, promptly addressing inquiries, queries, comments, and data requests.
Proactively anticipate clients’ requirements by reaching out to the relevant global contact to prepare answers to requests received (answers, comments, and replies need to be translated from English to Japanese).
Produce and deliver bespoke investment strategy materials, proactively identifying client needs and adapting both content and tone depending on institutional investors or retail investors.
Represent the firm in client meetings, articulating investment strategies and capabilities while effectively addressing client questions and queries.
Provide bilingual interpretation (English/Japanese) upon client request during meetings with Portfolio Managers, Product Specialists, and Research Analysts across global regions, facilitating seamless cross-border communication.
Collaborates closely with the RFP team to develop and deliver high-quality proposals, providing expert Japanese-to-English translation – demanding a sophisticated understanding of financial products, investment strategies, and industry terminology.
Periodic (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually) reporting and marketing which includes (but not limited to) creating reporting materials using PowerPoint and Excel, and translation of marketing reports (weekly, and monthly) to the fixed income and equity market teams.
Coordinate and attend onsite meetings (including asset tour, due diligence meeting) held in the US, UK or other regions with clients.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
Degree educated
Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. CFA) desirable
Demonstrable client service experience gained within a global asset manager
Knowledge and experience of alternative asset classes, in addition to traditional asset classes
Knowledge of local financial regulations and how they are applied within this role
Knowledge of fund structures and investment scheme frameworks, with the ability to clearly communicate complex structural concepts to clients
Good knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Proficient in leveraging AI-powered tools and digital technologies to drive operational efficiency and enhance the quality of client deliverables
