The Streets Division is responsible for the maintenance of over 287 miles of roadway, including: 100,000 lbs. of crack sealing annually, repairing an average of 2,500 potholes, more than 60,000 miles of plowing and deicing for snow and ice control annually, and more! The Traffic Control team is seeking a full-time Streets Technician I to perform a variety of street maintenance and traffic control duties.

Work on the traffic crew, as assigned, under intense heat and/or cold being near hot thermoplastic melters, working around strong chemical odors such as paint, paint thinner, and, paints, or thinner materials, carrying a stack of heavy traffic cones and maneuvering in tightly confined spaces such as heavily traveled intersections
Performs sign preparation, installation, and repair.
Performs street striping and installation of street markings.
Assist in emergency road closures.
Operates and performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs on equipment
Cleans and maintains shop building and grounds
Assists in the operation of snowplows during inclement weather
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
Uses hand tools to complete maintenance work
Acquires knowledge and practical experience in the field
Assists with all other Traffic Control maintenance activities as assigned
Ideal Candidate
High school graduate (or equivalent)
Skilled in critical thinking and the ability to problem solve
Able and willing to work on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergency repairs as needed
Basic office computer skills
IMSA certifications preferred
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent - required
Experience
None
Some experience in street maintenance in traffic control - preferred
Certifications
Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s license Class B with air brake and tanker endorsement within six months of employment.
Must obtain a Flagger’s Certification (ATTSA, CIRSA, or equivalent) within six months of employment.
Must obtain a Work Zone Safety (ATTSA, IMSA, or equivalent) within one year of employment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry, DMV check, and pre-placement physical and drug screen.
Work involves on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergency repairs as needed.
Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required
