We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

Cornell Health's more than 200 employees collaborate to provide integrated and culturally-sensitive mental health, medical, health promotion, public health, student accommodations, and occupational medicine care and services. The Cornell Health Nursing Department focuses on the health and wellbeing of Cornell’s students for them to achieve academic, work, and life success. The department provides clinical support to the organization through nursing and clinical support services. Department members collaborate with colleagues across the organization to foster lifelong learning and wellbeing through innovative services and strategies that promote the mental, emotional, physical, and social health of individuals and our diverse campus community.

   

Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) provide support to students and clinical staff by preparing the patient for their appointment, assisting during the procedure or examination when required, and cleaning the exam room. In addition, this role performs a variety of clinical functions, including: instructing patients on how to collect specimens, performing wound care, performing EKGs, eye exams, or point of care testing. Additionally, this position provides patients with instructions upon discharge on the use of any medical equipment and/or medications per clinician order. The CMA also assists with stocking exam rooms, and maintaining medical supplies and equipment on clinical floors, and is crucial to maintaining smooth clinic flow for Cornell Health.

This position is considered an Essential Employee; those needed on campus to meet the needs of students, research programs, or general operations when the university is in reduced operating status or closed. This position is OSHA category BBP1; TB1; ERG2.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Medical Assistant with one year of recent experience in an ambulatory care/clinic setting.

  • Medical Assisting Certification required within one year of start date.

  • Experience working with an electronic health record management system.

  • CPR-BLS certification required within one year of employment.

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

  • Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds. 

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Medical Assisting

  • Experience working in an integrated ambulatory health care environment

  • Experience working in a college health or adolescent setting, or with a diverse patient population.

  • Proficiency in language(s) in addition to English.
