Accountant II - FT (Langley)

Otter Co-op is now accepting applications for a Full-Time Accountant II for our Administrative Office located in Langley, BC.

What you will do:
Reporting to the Controller, responsibilities for this position include the following:

• Lead month-end and period-end close activities, including inventory and margin calculations, accruals, journal entries, and account analysis.
• Supervise, mentor, and review the work of a team of Junior Accountants.
• Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations, including bank, prepaid expense, and accounts receivable reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly tax filings and respond to tax audits and inquiries.
• Participate in and coordinate year-end audit activities, including the preparation of working papers and reconciliations.
• Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and related reporting.
• Conduct internal audits, including physical inventory audits and compliance reviews to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Analyze financial results and variances, providing meaningful insights and recommendations to management.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities.
• Develop and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting procedures.
• Support system implementations, process improvement initiatives, and special projects as required.
• Partner with business leaders to provide financial guidance and support operational decision-making.
• Contribute to the Team in living the Corporate Values of Integrity, Community and Excellence.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Finance and:

• 3-5 years previous accounting experience.
• University Degree or 2-year college diploma, ideally with an accounting major.
• Accounting Designation or enrolled in an Accounting Designation program is preferred.
• Proficient in a variety of computer applications, including MS Office Suite and strong knowledge of Excel.
• Experience with JDE or other ERP system considered an asset.
• Understanding of Federal and Provincial tax application in a retail & petroleum sales environment is an asset.
• Must work within strict confidentially guidelines.
• Ability to deal with a diverse and fast paced work schedule and to work with a sense of urgency.
• Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team
• Must be committed to a SAFE working environment.
