Mobile Crisis Clinician
PART TIME
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Mobile Crisis Clinician reports to the Crisis Services department manager and completes triage screening, assists with de-escalation of crisis, completes safety planning, and supports clients by providing community referrals as indicated. The individual works in collaboration with Des Moines Police Department (DMPD) dispatch and other department area staff to provide Behavioral Health support.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Receives transferred mental or behavioral health component calls from 911 dispatch.
2. Begins initial triage screening-and psychosocial assessment for clients, documents assessment within client record in a timely manner.
3. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on environmental, self-care, and education, identifying potential barriers, disposition options and appropriate community resources in maintaining positive health.
4. Provides a response and interim plan to clients with an identified need.
5. Formulates an individualized, and age-appropriate safety plan. Establishes contact with appropriate individuals from client's support system or identified professionals.
6. Interacts with clients to provide ongoing assessment, support, and motivational interviewing.
7. Attends team meetings and actively participates in the development of multi-disciplinary treatment for each client, including formulation of appropriate and measurable goals.
8. Assist in the development and participates in programming for clients.
9. Obtains and/or provides transportation for clients.
10. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all services provided in accordance with department standards and regulations.
11. Develops and maintains awareness of broad spectrum of community resources and knowledge of how to access them as needed by clients.
12. Provides referrals to BMC and community resources as appropriate.
13. Provides back-up to other Community Crisis department positions as needed.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
1. Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to changes in workload, schedule, department function and procedures.
2. Compliant with HIPAA/confidentiality standards at all times.
3. Participates actively in creating a positive and harmonious work environment by demonstrating teamwork and cooperative, responsive behaviors.
4. Works collaboratively with the client and other behavioral health staff to formulate goals for treatment.
5. Demonstrates effective communication methods and service excellence in all activities and interactions.
6. Documents assessments on 100% of evaluations.
7. Work with clients to remain independent in the community.
MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree in human services or related field from an accredited educational program.
2. Knowledge of crisis therapy and intervention techniques
3. 2+ years working with individuals with chronic mental illness or Emergency Department experience.
4. Valid Iowa Driver's License and ability to transport clients.
5. Ability to pass Des Moines Police Department background check and fingerprinting. May not be convicted of a felony crime.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with the multi-disciplinary team and in a high stress environment.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8. Ability to verbally de-escalate clients utilizing BMC trained programs.
9. Ability to complete electronic charting and documentation.
