The Business Analyst independently analyses business needs, processes, problems and opportunities and translates them into clear, testable and traceable requirements that support effective solution design, delivery and validation. The role works across business and technology stakeholders to establish shared understanding of the problem, expected outcomes, process impacts and requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle. The role determines, applies, documents and validates system configurations required to achieve agreed system behaviour within approved requirements and change controls.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Business Analyst independently owns the normal range of Business Analysis work, applying appropriate analysis approaches to create clarity, support effective delivery decisions and maintain alignment between business needs, requirements and expected outcomes.

  • Identify and resolve incomplete, inconsistent, ambiguous or conflicting requirements.
  • Manage requirements through change while maintaining alignment to agreed business needs and outcomes.

Acceptance Criteria and Traceability

  • Establish and maintain requirements traceability throughout design, delivery and validation.
  • Work closely with Quality Engineering to support testability and shared understanding of expected behaviour.
  • Support validation that delivered outcomes remain aligned to agreed business requirements.

System Configuration and Validation

  • Translate approved requirements into configuration changes using supported business rules, workflows, parameters and other application settings.
  • Independently apply configurations within agreed architecture, configuration standards, access permissions and change controls.
  • Assess configuration impacts and dependencies across processes and systems, consulting Architecture and Software Engineering where required.
  • Validate configured behaviour against acceptance criteria, retain evidence and work with Quality Engineering to support broader testing.
  • Maintain configuration documentation, change history and traceability to requirements, supporting release preparation and operational handover.
  • Investigate and resolve configuration issues within role authority, escalating software defects, architectural questions and changes beyond supported configuration capabilities.

Professional Practice and Continuous Improvement

  • Apply appropriate Business Analysis methods, standards, tools and techniques according to the needs of the initiative.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of business processes, applications and technology.
  • Participate in peer review and provide constructive support to colleagues.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to improving Business Analysis practices, templates and ways of working.

  • Decision Quality - Uses evidence, business context, risk and stakeholder input to make sound analysis decisions; recognises when matters require broader business, architecture or governance decisions and escalates appropriately.
  • Customer Focus - Understands internal and external customer needs and keeps intended business outcomes at the centre of analysis; challenges requirements where appropriate to ensure they address the underlying need rather than simply documenting a requested solution.
