Business Unit Manager

Summary/Objective:

The Business Unit Manager must focus on customers' expectations, prevent problems, and strive for continuous improvement resulting in improved results for themselves, customers, and other employees. 

The ideal candidate will have experience leading others to operational excellence while focusing on managing and optimizing the overall operations of the Portage plant. Acts as a champion for change. Holds self and others accountable for measurable and cost-effective results; follows through on commitments; can be counted upon to successfully execute goals. There is significant value for knowledge and experience in commercial sales, fabrication, profiling, flat and hot roll metals, and galvanized materials. A candidate with an entrepreneurial mindset and some knowledge in basic metallurgy, in addition to previous P&L responsibility, is preferred.

Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for assisting/participating in contractual negotiations with customers and suppliers. 

2. Responsible for overseeing operations. 

3. Candidate should have operational management experience. 

4. Responsible for inventory management and forecasts. 

5. Responsible for pricing policy, price maintenance, price schedules, evaluation, and approval of off-list prices. 

6. Responsible for sales/margin/profit growth. 

7. Responsible for managing, reporting, and improving key performance metrics including -Safety, Inventory, Quality, Cost, Productivity 

8. Responsible for Process/continuous improvement 

9. Responsible for developing and guiding new product programs to ensure sustained profit growth within the business unit. 

10. Responsible for contributing to the corporate strategic growth plan via annual business audits, evaluations and submission of multiyear business plans. 

11. Responsible for staffing within the business unit.

Supervisory Responsibility: 

This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department. 

Travel:

This position requires up to 25 percent travel.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

1. B.A. or B.S. in Business 

2. Equivalent business experience with a proven record of increasing responsibility.
