About the position
The Forecasting Geologist supports integrated production forecasting, type curve development, reserves and resources maturation, business planning, and uncertainty analysis for shale and tight assets. This role combines geological interpretation, production behavior, engineering inputs, and reservoir characterization to generate reliable and transparent forecasts that support business decision making.
The successful candidate will work closely with asset teams, reservoir engineers, earth scientists, and planning organizations to improve forecast quality and support strategic planning activities. The role is expected to influence development decisions and business outcomes through direct collaboration with global asset teams and technical specialists.
This position also offers opportunities to advance forecasting workflows through analytics, automation, and digital innovation.
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead geoscience contributions to production forecasting workflows, including type curve generation, calibration, validation, and uncertainty assessment.
- Integrate geological, petrophysical, production, engineering, and development planning datasets into forecasting workflows.
- Support reserves, resources, business planning, portfolio planning, and development strategy activities through high-quality forecast inputs.
- Evaluate performance trends, well results, development outcomes, and competitor activity to improve forecasting assumptions.
- Quantify uncertainty and communicate forecast sensitivities, risks, and opportunities to technical and leadership stakeholders.
- Support well performance lookbacks and forecast quality assurance activities.
- Collaborate with reservoir engineers, asset geologists, petrophysicists, production engineers, planners, and commercial organizations.
- Drive continuous improvement of forecasting workflows through automation, visualization, analytics, and digital technologies.
- Deliver clear documentation of assumptions, methodologies, and technical recommendations.
- Support capability building and technical knowledge sharing across forecasting and subsurface communities.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in geology, geophysics, earth science, petroleum engineering, or a related discipline
- 5-15 years of experience in forecasting, reservoir characterization, reservoir management, or integrated asset development.
- Experience integrating geological interpretation with production forecasting and development planning workflows.
- Strong technical understanding of type curve development, production forecasting, uncertainty analysis, and reserves/resource support activities.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to translate technical analysis into decision-ready business recommendations.
- If required by the final posting: degree from a deemed or recognized university and legal authorization to work in India without company-sponsored visa support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting shale and tight developments.
- Experience supporting reserves determination and business planning activities.
- Familiarity with forecasting software, reservoir engineering applications, data visualization platforms, and analytics tools.
- Experience applying automation, scripting, analytics, or machine learning to forecasting workflows.
- Experience working with global technical organizations and distributed teams.

- Ability to explain forecast drivers, assumptions, risks, and business implications clearly to technical and leadership audiences.
- Track record of improving forecasting consistency, reliability, workflow efficiency, or decision usefulness.
- Strong collaboration across geoscience, reservoir engineering, production engineering, planning, commercial, and asset teams.
- Demonstrated ownership, sound judgment, and ability to deliver forecast products under business planning timelines.
