J61 and J63 are 24-bed cardiovascular telemetry units providing specialized care to patients recovering from open-heart and cardiovascular surgeries, as well as those with ventricular assist devices (VADs). These fast-paced units offer a collaborative environment with opportunities for nursing growth, professional development, and exposure to innovative cardiac procedures. The patient population includes those recovering from coronary artery bypass surgery, minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery, valve replacement or repair, VAD procedures, and other complex cardiovascular surgeries.

The units also care for patients with a variety of cardiac conditions, including angina, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and arrhythmias such as supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia. Patients may also receive care related to permanent pacemaker and defibrillator procedures. The care team provides individualized patient education focused on discharge needs, collaborates with specialized teams to support high-quality care, and participates in opportunities for community education and training. 

The Clinical Technician provides compassionate, hands-on patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Working as part of a collaborative care team, the PCNA supports a safe, healing environment while delivering patient care within validated skills, training, and competency requirements.

 

A caregiver in this position works days, 7:00am—7:30pm. Weekend and holiday rotations.

 
A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.  

• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.  

• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.  

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• A High School Diploma or GED 

• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

• Nursing students: required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) prior to hire

• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) OR Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered  

• Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
